He was very apologetic about the entire situation and wished it could've been handled differently. I appreciated his phone call. He offered to refund my charges. I did have an inspection done as well, and told him I wasn't looking for a freebie on that. I only wanted a refund on the emissions charge. Despite that, he said he would refund the charges for both the inspection and emissions. So, I am gratified that Riverton Chevy takes their customer feedback seriously. Overall, I'm feeling better about the ultimate resolution of this situation and have bumped the ratings a bit. (Original review) I took my 1986 3/4 Ton Chevy truck in for inspections and emissions today. It has passed I/M at other garages for the 4 years I've lived here. Today, I was told that it was an automatic fail on emissions since it didn't have catalytic converters. I told them that it had NEVER had cats and this is how is came from the factory. Since it has been successfully registered for the last 4 years, I asked Riverton Chevy if they thought it had been passed inappropriately or illegally, but they didn't have a good answer. They refused to consider my assertions that it never had catalytic converters. I left the truck so they could research it. The mechanic told me that he'd called the State of Utah and that any vehicle after 1981 without a catalytic converter would automatically fail. I then called the two prior garages where it had previously had emissions. They both immediately confirmed that these trucks never had catalytic converters. Heavy duty trucks, with a GVWR of 8600 lbs or greater were not required to have catalytic converters until 1987. I called Doug at the State of Utah IM Tech Center, the same guy that Riverton Chevy say that they called. I gave him my truck's specifications, and he confirmed that it doesn't have catalytic converters, has never had them, and doesn't need them. Despite this, Riverton Chevy says that since they did the emissions test, they have to charge me for it. So, I get to take my vehicle to another garage and pay for emissions again, and I got to pay Riverton Chevy for their employee's incompetence. For what it's worth, Doug at the state office said he'd be calling them to advise them of their error. Carla, the service adviser, was helpful and apologetic throughout the whole situation. However, the sticker on my door says GVWR 8600, the emissions sticker inside the engine compartment doesn't say CATALYST, and nowhere on my truck does it say, "Unleaded Fuel Only". Any of these would allow one to verify that this is a non-catalyst vehicle. And on top of that, this is a Chevy dealer...Part of the GM network. Can't they run the VIN number and see every last bit of information about my truck's original configuration? Shouldn't they, of all people, be able to see the emissions equipment on their own vehicles? I realize customers come into garages and make all sorts of crazy assertions about their vehicle. But when a customer tells you that he's been able to successfully register a vehicle for the last 4 years, don't simply blow him off and tell him that this can't be done. More
customer service although they have a lot of good customer ratings. My experience with Riverton Chevrolet was not so good. I purchased a 2003 Chevy Silverado that was although they have a lot of good customer ratings. My experience with Riverton Chevrolet was not so good. I purchased a 2003 Chevy Silverado that was fully loaded including a DVD player. The DVD player was an important part of purchasing the vehicle. The salesman told me they would fix anything that was wrong with the vehicle. They fix a broken mirror but refused to fix a DVD player that did not work when I purchased the vehicle. The purchase price of the vehicle included a DVD player they did not stand behind their word. For what I paid for the vehicle they should put a DVD player in the vehicle like they said it came with. Good luck getting them to stand behind your used vehicle after you drive it off the lot. More

However, there were no tricks or ruses, just great, honest deals. We got more than a fair trade in and an awesome truck! Our first new vehicle, which we never even thought to want because they are usually so much more expensive and depreciation not worth it, but the deal was amazing because it started with such a great offer on our existing vehicle. Jeffrey, our salesman, was fabulous. Find him! Also, glad to do business with a company that isn't open on Sundays. We WILL refer friends! Thanks! Thanks! More

Way over priced! I came in for an oil change and to have my safety and emissions done. The oil change price is fair, if not better than fair. My Tahoe did not pass i I came in for an oil change and to have my safety and emissions done. The oil change price is fair, if not better than fair. My Tahoe did not pass inspection due to needing new brakes and rotors which did need to be done and I expected it. So they gave me a price quote to do new brakes and rotors all the way around........$ 1,223.11!! Yes, you saw that correct, over $1200 dollars. Are you kidding me! I didn't even bother to try and negotiate the price because it was so out of the ballpark. I went and bought the parts the same day at Autozone and with a little help from a friend to oversee it, did the fix myself. I was out the door for parts $225.00, and I paid my buddy $100 for his time and help. I can understand that you are in business to make money, and I can support that. But when I basically get bent over backwards to fix something as simple as that I can't believe that they would try to charge me that much money. There is no way that I would recommend Riverton Chevrolet for any service other than an oil change, let alone will I ever buy a car from them again. More
