My wife wanted a new station wagon, which in 2011 were very rare. VW was the only manufacturer supplying wagons in the US at that time. Riverhead Bay Motors found the exact one we wanted - a silver Je very rare. VW was the only manufacturer supplying wagons in the US at that time. Riverhead Bay Motors found the exact one we wanted - a silver Jetta wagon - several hundred miles away. We put down a deposit and it arrived within a few days. All seemed great until the sales department heard we were getting a loan from our bank and not them. They lost interest in us. Many delays and excuses were offered during the paper work transfer. After several days of not hearing from them to complete the transaction our agents for both Geico, an excellent auto insurer, and our bank expressed dismay and alarm at their lack of attention to the transaction. They both thought the careless disregard to their calls was unheard of. The agents had to call repeatedly over many days to get their required information. In the middle of the transaction I made an appointment to show them our trade-in on Sunday at 11 am. When I came into the empty showroom both salesmen on duty made me wait till they finished their hero sandwiches before they would meet with me. After much chewing and swallowing they looked at the car and agreed to the trade-in value. Several days later we were told we could pick up the car so we made an appointment. Our salesman took us to our new car and we found it covered in green dust. He said "Oh, that just tree discharge, it happens this time of year." What? Really? Are you too lazy to wash to a car you just sold? The delayed transaction, rude attitude to us and our bank and insurance agents and the green dust spoiled the excitement of buying a new car. Six months later: My wife ran over a rock and damaged the tire rim. I took it back to Riverhead Bay Motors and they said it would have to be replaced, the estimate was fair. After one week of waiting, and not a word from service, I called and was told that the one year old part was not available anymore and they would have to make a new one for me in Germany. Q. "How long would that take?" A. "Not sure." Q. "Would we have to wait for VW to warm up the forge?" A. "Don't know." Q. "Why didn't you call us and let us know about the delay? A. "We were just told this by the part supplier." Q. "Why didn't you offer us a loaner car while we were waiting?" A. "Okay, would you like one now?" I called the manager and left an angry message. Service called back immediately to say they would take a rim off another car. The price was fair and I picked it up in a couple of hours. The service guy behind the desk would not look or talk to me. I paid while he was talking to a buddy. No apology was offered. The experience was very unprofessional. Why did I have to get angry to get results? To be fair the prices I got for my wife’s new car, trade-in and tire rim repair were very good. But beware of the price for an oil change. They charge $80 compared to the $40 (and better service) offered at nearby Apple Honda. More
