Between 2000 and 2020, I purchased 9 vehicles from Mercedes-Benz of Princeton. In 2021, I developed a case of “grass is greener syndrome” and purchased a 10th from Ray Catena Freehold. That was a huge More

Good morning Mr. Meyer, I thank you for your feedback. I understand that you had a concern with your vehicle's door back in 2022. We checked all of the doors and saw that they appeared and functioned properly. After you called and mentioned the door not being aligned correctly, we then found that you were talking about the trim on the door, not the door itself. We found that the door trim was slightly raised on the left rear door. We adjusted the trim to the proper height, as needed. The loaner situation is very disappointing, and frustrating. We schedule a minimal number of loaner appointments each day, as to be able to accommodate as many clients as possible. However, we do have some clients that either cannot return immediately, or simply choose to return the loaner at their convenience instead of when their own vehicle has been completed. This will then put us behind the 8 ball for the following day, and force clients who are scheduled with loaners to go without. We do our absolute best to have our clients return the loaner vehicles in a timely manner, however it does not always happen that way. As I explained in my email response yesterday, the automatic ventilation feature uses a complex system of sensors to determine and analyze the interior and exterior temperature and humidity. After thanking me for my more detailed explanation, you went on to call your advisor clueless and nonsensical. I do not believe that we have treated you with any disrespect, so I do not believe it to be appropriate to start name calling our employees for an "inaccurate description". During this same visit, you mentioned that your puddle light lens fell off. Even though your vehicle is out of warranty, we installed the new light at no charge to you. Yes, it may seem like a minor item to replace, however we chose to try and make a client happy rather than charge you for it. I apologize that you feel that we are not giving you a luxury experience with us. As I mentioned yesterday, your advisor is consistently one of our most praised and requested employees. She has been with the brand for many years and has a vast knowledge of how our vehicles work. My offer to assign a new service advisor still stands, if you would like to continue servicing with us. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. Thank you Christopher Paserba Service Manager Ray Catena Mercedes-Benz of Freehold 732-339-6820 cpaserba@raycatenafreehold.com

Thank you so much for your 1 star review. Expecting any dealership to reimburse for a ticket for not having your front plate on your vehicle as a NJ driver is ridiculous.

Aug 21, 2024 -

jerijeff responded

It is not ridiculous when the sales person tells you that they would have to drill holes in the bumper to put it on and it is not necessary. Why would I not put it on if it is and was a state law. I was depending on the sales persons' expertise (maybe that is why he is no longer employed). I am not asking for a complete reimbursement, but, some sort of accommodation. The sales management at Freehold Mercedes is being petty to a long, loyal and local Mercedes customer. Penny wise and dollar foolish. Perhaps it should be presented to Mr. Catena for his opinion

Aug 21, 2024 -

jerijeff responded

I stand by my previous response of what my salesman told me at the time of purchase and when the plates were installed. Additionally I was not told anything about getting a ticket and that the the dealership would not pay for any ticket received. I have been driving for 60 years and it would be foolhardy on my part not to put the front plate on especially if it was against the law and if the salesman said what you say he was instructed to say and do. Could it be possible that he didnt want to be bothered or did not have the time? Unfortunately he is no longer employed by your dealership and I certainly would not do something that was against the law. Makes no sense. Your decision not to compromise and even when I spoke to Robert on Monday, he said maybe we will pay something but not $300 and he would have to talk to his Manager (he will probably deny that also) so your staff is still not saying what you train them to say. It is not the $300, but, that my integrity is being questioned. This has already taken too much time and I will go forward

How about an apology for this whole incident. I do not want or need your $100. My integrity is more important than money to me. Furthermore loyalty and customer satisfaction is important to grow and maintain a business. These conversations should never have happened !

Good morning Michael, I just reviewed your service records with us and found that you were not charged for a brake fluid flush or wheel alignment during your visit in January. You were only charged for the oil change, which is the basis for your service appointment with us. We had recommended a 4 wheel alignment, along with 4 tires due to wear. (All 4 tires are at the minimum thickness for safety.) We have not recommended a brake fluid flush since 2023, at which time you declined that service. The only other item that has been recommended was a replacement of the seals on your front engine cover, due to leaking oil. We did not recommend any diagnosis time for this repair, only the time to complete said repair. If you have any other concerns, please feel free to contact us at 732-339-6820, and we would be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Thank you

"Gunfighter" I am sorry you are so terribly misinformed. No one was ever collecting NJ tax from you. The dealership was collecting the Colorado tax only. If you didnt spend so much time talking over everyone and using foul language in your emails trying to bully a dealership with an owner who has been in the business for over 65 years you would have known this to be the case. Our dealerships comply with all state and federal rules regarding sales tax. The deal that was worked for you satisfied the Colorado tax which we would have supplied proof to you to process your own motor vehicle. I dont really care where you bought cars before. This store in this auto group follows all tax guidlelines strictly. John, Matt and the rest of my team were nothing but forthcoming and professional with you and informed you every step of the way. I take offense to you describing us as "sleazy". Describing your own behavior in my opinion. Car has since been sold. Good luck to you.

Jan 12, 2024 -

gunfighter responded

Excuse me but no one ever used any foul language. Also, I have a copy of an Invoice that clearly shows you trying to collect New Jersey State sales tax of $6,247.81. You have a copy too (Deal #539770 dated 01/09/2024). Also, you are not required to collect Colorado State taxes. New Jersey is not a reciprocal state of Colorado according to our Motor Vehical Department. So, please explane to everyone reading this why ypu were trying to collect Colorado sales taxes from me when you were told that I have to pay Colorados sales taxes when I register the the car in Colorado.!!

Jan 12, 2024 -

Ray Catena of Freehold - Mercedes-Benz Dealership responded

I read the emails you sent to John. Perhaps on the initial pencil when no one knew you were in Colorado yes But the last deal that was presented to you has the state(2.9%), county(2%) and some PSI (publix safety improvement .37%) tax Colorado collects. My MV clerk spent alot of time on this getting the exact percentages for you so we could finalize the deal. If you want to do business with our auto group we comply with all federal and state tax guidelines. We do not leave it up to the customer to satisfy sales tax out of state because if they are not paid the responsibility untimately falls on the dealership. The fact that you implied we would take the money and never pay the tax was insulting and unprofessional! We would have collected the Colorado tax for our files and sent to the clerk in Colorado for you to process your plates. You and the clerk at Colorado are on the other side of the country and are clearly not aware of the stellar repuation our owners have in this industry. We appreciate your consideration and like I said the car has since been sold. Have a good day

Jan 12, 2024 -

gunfighter responded

"Perhaps on the initial pencil when no one knew you were in Colorado yes" So you didn't know I live in Colorado? Serously? My address is on the form you emailed me showing 8.6 % Sales tax. Where did that number come from??? Certainly not Colorado! To your credit you removed it when I pointed it out. But it should have never been there to begin with. I am sorry for using the word "sleazy" but thats how it felt when you were trying to collect Colorado sales tax from me when you were told by our Motor Vehicle Department that it is my responsibility to pay Colorado sales taxes when I register the car here. Not yours! All you had to do was charge me the agreed upon price and D & H and the car would be on its way to me and everyone would be happy. I was perfically happy with you and the dealership untill it came to you insisting that you had to collect Colorado sales taxes. Once again "IT IS NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COLLECT COLORADO SALES TAX" New Jersey is not a recipocal state with Colorado. I really wanted that car. However, it was wrong for you to try and collect Colorado state taxes from me when you were told it was my responsiblilty to pay the taxes here, It's that simple. Have a nice day, hopefully the rain and snow has ended. I am sure that whomever you sold the car to will enjoy it. It was a beautiful car and it is my loss. However, this event has soured me so much on Mercedes that we have decided to buy a new Acura LTX Type S. Have a nice weekend.

Jan 12, 2024 -

Ray Catena of Freehold - Mercedes-Benz Dealership responded

The initial error was on the desk manager unaware that you were out of state. I am not insisting on anything. It is the policy of the auto group that we satisfy the sales tax in the registered state because as I explained if they are not paid properly in full the liability falls on the dealership. We do not waver on this issue. Im sorry it did not work out. We have had no snow yet thank goodness.
