I came here because my wife's family has done business with Rankl & Ries for 20 years and always been treated well. I purchased a car that they had taken in on trade, told me the CarFax showed three ow with Rankl & Ries for 20 years and always been treated well. I purchased a car that they had taken in on trade, told me the CarFax showed three owners but sometimes the dealership shows up as one of those "owners". The day after we bought it, the "check engine" light came on (I'm sure it had simply been reset by their service guys). No help from Rankl & Ries with the light besides twice "reading the code" and resetting it, saying to "come back if it comes back on"... I think all they know how to do there is reset the code so the dash light goes off. I can do that myself! I had one issue after another with this car, wound up paying $1000 in repairs in the 3 months that I owned it. After those 3 months, I was ready to get rid of the money pit. I took it to another dealership (they sold the brand of vehicle that it was) to get a trade-in value, and when they ran their car-check, they found out that I was actually the FIFTH owner (and I was assured that did NOT include dealers), and offered me $500 for what I had paid $7000 for just a few months earlier. I went back to Rankl & Ries and one of the owners happened to be there. I explained the situation, and he says that is no good - arrangements were made for us to purchase another vehicle at a really good price, and they would pay off the balance of the loan on the lemon that I had purchased. I figured that they were taking the opportunity to turn a customer's bad experience into a good one. Nope. Turns out, I was able to do them a favor by moving a newer vehicle that had been sitting on their lot for over 200 days, they gave me a really good deal. It wasn't until I was reviewing my paperwork that I saw what the finance guy had done - the "really good deal" was the book value of the car minus the balance of the loan on the other car I had purchased. They maxed out the loan and I wound up actually paying for both cars. And get this - the lemon that I left there with 6 OBDII ("check engine") codes was back on the lot the very next week! They had the car up for sale AGAIN for the same price! The 1-star rating is not in any way due to my experience with the salesman. In all of this, Keith was very friendly, helpful, even sympathetic. I would give him 5-stars; In fact, I would do business with him again, but I would bring cash and insist that no-good financial guy keep his mitts off of my transaction. More
