Prestige service identified the problem, a seized wastegate valve in the turbo unit, but recommended the most expensive solution, replacing the entire turbo unit for ~$3600. I took the car to another wastegate valve in the turbo unit, but recommended the most expensive solution, replacing the entire turbo unit for ~$3600. I took the car to another mechanic who “unseized” the valve and cleared the fault simply by driving the car “hard” enough to “exercise” the turbo unit (no charge as he performed other services at lower costs than quoted by Prestige). Yes, the turbo unit may still fail at some point in the future as this is a systemic failure of these VW turbo units after 5-6 years that VW has not yet acknowledged as a recall item because it usually falls outside of the extended drivetrain warranty period), but my car is running fine for now and if regularly driven “hard” enough to exercise the wastegate valve this problem should not reoccur (per my mechanic). I am therefore not likely to bring my car back to Prestige for the privilege of paying $180 for recommendations that either lack a true understanding of the problem or are simply profit-maximizing for the dealership with no regard to the customer’s wallet. It was the second time I brought my car in for the same thing. The radio.. I was told they did an update AGAIN. And it’s still doing the same thing. We had a horrible loaner car, for a week while they were thing. The radio.. I was told they did an update AGAIN. And it’s still doing the same thing. We had a horrible loaner car, for a week while they were fixing said radio. We could see on the cat app that they were hardly working on the car. When they were done, we got a nasty message about bringing back the loaner car. We were treated rudely when we asked questions about the car. This car is a 2022 brand new Tiguan that we paid for in cash. This car should not be having issues repeatedly. We definitely won’t go back to this dealership. And the car is STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUES!!! More
