Huge upsell of non-Toyota recommended service We took our 2018 Highlander in for 30K service. Toyota recommends replacing oil, oil filter, air cleaner, and Cabin air filter. Other than that all We took our 2018 Highlander in for 30K service. Toyota recommends replacing oil, oil filter, air cleaner, and Cabin air filter. Other than that all items are to "inspect". Precision's website indicates the oil and filters plus tire rotation. My wife was told there were a bunch of other things that were "standard". They included 4 wheel tire balance, 4 wheel alignment and brake fluid flush. They also tried to sell her on a battery cleaning which she declined. In the end what should have been roughly a $100 service ended up being over $340. I asked about why these were recommended and the adviser showed me an alignment sheet that showed it was not perfectly aligned. Well I know something about it and it was not perfect but barely out. The tire sensor that is driven over when entering indicated no abnormal wear. I asked why Precision did these things and he said it was all "preventative" which is a joke. If Toyota thought they were necessary, they would indicate so in the manual and online. They don't. I have experienced this same gross upsell when I have taken my 1998 4-runner in for service. In my mind these are simply ways for Precision to increase the ticket. Please note that I believe the individual advisors are just doing what they are asked to do and that the problem lies with Precision upper management. The lesson here is to be aware of what Toyota recommends and not allow yourself to be sold something you don't need. More
