I chose this dealer as I have had several family members purchase their Chevy trucks here. After stopping by to check out a vehicle I was intereseted in I was surprised to learn that despite the cost of th purchase their Chevy trucks here. After stopping by to check out a vehicle I was intereseted in I was surprised to learn that despite the cost of the vehicle the dealer was willing to work with me in order to make the sale happen. I left Bob Brow the criteria that I was looking for in my car and within a matter of days he had done his homework and helped me make my dream a reality. More
I came into Philips, to check the validity of an internet listing for a 2010 Malibu. Online the price seemed to good to be correct, given the age of the car, the options and the miles. After visiting listing for a 2010 Malibu. Online the price seemed to good to be correct, given the age of the car, the options and the miles. After visiting several other dealers the previous weekend for some new and used cars, and then Carmax as well... headed over to Philips for this 2010 Malibu. Pulled into the parking lot, parked my 1998 Malibu, and Marty was already in the cold parking lot greating me. No Pressure, just a good morning and how can we help you today. Told him that I was interested in a Malibu and he welcomed me in. Sat me down at the desk, and then handed me the brochure for a 2011. I then handed him the printout from the website for the one I was interested. At other dealerships, the sales guy turned a quick frown, because he knows his commision just went through the floor. Not this time... Marty took the sheet, looked at it... and he himself said.. "This price can't be right". I found out that earlier in the day, there was a "goof" in online pricing for a Camero and he was concerned this one was wrong too. He went and checked, and sure enough... this was no mistake. He offered me a test drive, we went for a good spin... had a good conversation. I wanted this car. We did the numbers, and worked it out. I wasn't prepared to make the down payment that day (Tax refund and bonus depositing 4 days later)... no problem, I could bring in a check on Friday... Now for the negative part of my review, and sadly it is just the state of Auto Shopping. After the time I agreed to the price, and I was out the door... 4+ hours.. I started this shopping before lunch, and didn't leave till dinner. And I hadn't eaten lunch, so every 15-30 minutes the day got longer and longer. Marty was great, he kept checking in on me. He had some other clients, (which I 100% understood), but he still kept tabs on me. Phil then came down to talk about Aftermarket add-on's. I had already talked to Marty about them, and had settled on the exterior and interior... When talking with Phil, he gave me a good deal on the full package and a 2nd key for the car. Phil is a different sales person then Marty... With Phil is when I first heard my Credit Score... which was a surprise to me. Why a surprise? I have a credit scroe service from American Express (not a rinking dink internet, cute commercial one). I knew my score and was happy with it. But for some reason, when Philips ran it, it was down nearly 100 points and no one could explain to me why. Making several phone calls to Amex to find out, got some nonsense excuse that they were based on two different scales. Amex was based on a 850 scale, where the one Philips was using (per the paper), was based on a 1,000. But me being a software engineer and a numbers guy... The shift in score didn't match the shift in scale metrics. So this was a point of frustrationg, because I knew this ment a finance rate closer to 8 or worse, then 4 and below. I was about to walk out, but I really wanted this car. I resigned myself to the fact that now instead of the $270 range payment I wanted, I was looking at $350, whih really sucked... but the car was solid and what I wanted, and even though Philips couldn't explain it, I understood they were just going off the computer and what Transunion was saying... and that there was little they could do at that point. (I understand how "everyone" says they have good credit... and that number that comes out of the computer is "law" to protect the buisness). I did have my credit score right there on my smartphone, so I wasn't making things up. Off to Matt, to seal the deal and sign my next 5 years away. Mike was EXTREMLY? friendly and understanding of the credit scroe situation. I showed him my smart phone, showing all three raitings... and he was just as confused as I was. Which made me feel a bit better because Mike does this as his full time job. Didn't change the fact that he had to go with what he had on the computer, but at least I knew I wasn't crazy for questioning it. Mike then showed me the offer from Bank Of America... I asked him if he could ask BoA for a discounted rate, because I have a Credit Card and Mortgage with them. He zipped off the inqury... we talked about the Warranty extensions (Which I already knew I wanted)... Settled on a number, BoA wrote back... they knocked off some, and Mike did a little more magic and got me in at aroudn 4.5. $320 payment, which given that I added the warranty and the aftermarket, and the situation... I was okay with. So 6 hours after walking in, the paper work was all done. Came back an hour or so later to pick up the car (I wasn't trading in my old Malibu), and all was good. Just this past week... I had my first instance with the Service department (my aftermarket upgrades were being done).... The loaner car and the service department was great... good sign for the future. Thanks Philips, when it is time to again to look for a new or (new to me) car, you will certainly be on the list. More
