Overall I had a very pleasant experience. My sales man Doug Franklin and finance manager Marlana were super. No complaints. However, I drove up to Tyler from Nacogdoches because the listed pr My sales man Doug Franklin and finance manager Marlana were super. No complaints. However, I drove up to Tyler from Nacogdoches because the listed price on the vehicle I was looking at was $1200 less than Loving Nissan in Lufkin. When Doug was writing up the sale, he commented that the AAGI protective coating is added to “all” vehicles. That added an additional $3000 to my cost. Doug’s comment to me was that “all the dealers do that” and “it’s on the website”. Yes it’s on the website in small font next to an asterisk as you’re scrolling through pages of pictures and larger font descriptions. At no time was I given the option of purchasing a vehicle from the dealer without the product already applied. What Doug and Marlana failed to point out was the following; on the AG VAP limited warranty registration form under special notices appears the following verbiage “The purchase of the above products is voluntary and is not required in order to obtain financing or to purchase the vehicle.” So how voluntary is it if the upcharge is applied to all vehicles? Yes of course I was free to leave the dealership at that point and go elsewhere. However, I had just sold my vehicle the day before and my wife cannot take off of work during the week to drive me around looking for honest dealers. In my opinion this practice is deceptive, illegal and in direct violation of the third party’s special notices appears stated in their registration form. I plan on filing a formal written complaint to the Attorney General’s office as well as the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles regarding this deceptive practice. Other than this one significant issue I was pleased with how I was treated. This is a policy instituted by senior management and owners so the folks in the trenches should not be vilified for it.
