All of our inquiries were handled promptly and respectfully leading up to our purchase. We will probably use the Internet for future auto purchases, it was that painless! More
I knew I wanted a new vehicle, but didn't expect to have such a positive experience! Angel, my salesperson, guided me through the process of vehicle selection by helping me decide on a model of VW and narr such a positive experience! Angel, my salesperson, guided me through the process of vehicle selection by helping me decide on a model of VW and narrow down my options. The perfect Jetta was already on the lot. The rest of the transaction went very smoothly, including my trade-in and finance options. After the sale, I have gotten friendly, professional follow-up care from Angel and the rest of the staff at David Maus VW. I am more than pleased with my experience and I would definitely recommend this dealership to friends and family. More

Though I have had the VW CC Sport only a w Dear David, I am a relatively recent transplant to FL, having moved from NY in the last year to Orlando. Though I have had the VW CC Sport only a week, I can say I am very pleased with the vehicle, both in terms of performance and style. The car has drawn the attention of many other car shoppers both in my neighborhood and at work and I have spent several hours talking not only about the vehicle, but also your dealership. You can assume that what you read below has been discussed in those various conversations over the last week and will continue to be discussed in the future as people ask about the car. All in all, I would rate the entire experience one week after sale/delivery as an 8-9 out of ten. Regarding performance, the car gets a 10. Provided the vehicle continues with no mechanical issues, the car will continue to maintain that rating with me. This is the first foreign car I have ever purchased/leased, and I am pleased with the engineering of the VW, which has a reputation of being best in the world. The reason for the 8-9 out of 10 rating at this point, is tied to the sales process of the dealership. The rating should be based on the entire transaction, including the vehicle and the sale process, to which I am allocating a 50% weighting for each. My initial assessment of the sales process when I drove off the lot was a 7 and in a week’s worth of reflection, I would say it has moved to a 8 -8.5. I have been involved in 11 car purchases over the last 22+ years and I have dealt with a sales process that achieved a 10 in my mind, and it is against this ‘10’ experience which I measure every other auto sales process I go through. The process with David Maus VW was good, but not approaching a 10. The detail of the ‘10’ experience, as compared to the David Maus 8-9 experience, was as follows: • The salesman was as eager to establish a ‘relationship’ with me as he was to sell me a car. Suffice it to say that he viewed me (and anyone who purchased a car from him) as a client in his book whom he expected will come back to him and generate revenue for him and whomever is his employer, not only now, but in the future. The primary reasons I did not go to him for this purchase is that he is still in NY and is selling SUVs at a truck dealership, which is not what I was in the mkt for this time after spending the last 15 years driving SUVs. The salesman at David Maus did make an effort at establishing the relationship, but only AFTER, the deal was sealed and I was driving off the lot. At that time, it was too late. Until I actually got in the car to drive off, the only thing the salesman was interested in with regard to my wife and me was whether we were going to buy a car from him THAT DAY. This is not uncommon in my dealings with most of my car purchasing experience, but one that did not happen with the ‘10’ salesman. • The ’10’ salesman was to the point and spent no more time in the deal ‘negotiation’ than was necessary. He didn’t view the transaction as one where he was to extract as much out of me as he could; he viewed it as an efficient method of getting the car off his lot and me into it at a price both of us could live with. My first deal with him was done in 28 minutes! He did not own the dealership nor was he the dealership’s ‘manager;’ but he had authority to bind the dealership to a handshake deal, which he, and the dealership, took very seriously. The salesman at David Maus did the deal relatively quickly in 3 hours, but 2 of the 3 hours was jockeying for max sale price and going back and forth with the floor manager that nite on 3 different offers. The first offer was outrageous, the second was made out to be the best deal possible, and the third got me everything I wanted, except the price was at about $30/mo more than I best price I was hoping to spend. I could have held out, walked out and gotten closer to what I wanted later, but I would have had to endure endless phone calls trying to get me to come back in (more wasted time of mine first on the phone and then going back to the dealership to close it). Instead, I determined that it was a deal I could live with and obviously one you could live with. I find this part of the car purchasing experience just completely inefficient and unproductive; it was refreshing to deal with the ‘10’ salesman almost ten years ago when we didn’t go through that dance. • The ‘10’ salesman did not ‘up-sell’ additional products, services, or treatments to increase the profit on the sale. Instead, he provided me a menu of such services, which he allowed me to peruse while he went around drumming up the paperwork for the sale, with the idea that, after looking them over myself during the transaction’s downtime, I could ask him questions about such products. Because I had the opportunity to think through what would be beneficial to me, the ‘10’ salesman was able to sell me add’l services, which I elected to pay for, after I considered such ideas on my own, had spent time thinking it over and discussed what I was considering with the salesman. This was and is in stark contrast to every other dealer I’ve dealt with, including your own, where this is placed on the plate of the ‘finance director.’ With the salesman, dressed in the clothing of a Finance Director, throwing it all at the wall and hoping something sticks, there is a awkward, and from my perspective, unproductive ‘hard sale’ of those services in a very short time at the very end of closing the sale. Suffice to say I have never bought any such services sold to me in that manner; however, I have received those services at no cost when presented in that ‘end of sale’ strategy. In our David Maus VW deal, add’l services (free car washes) were added for free, which we otherwise would have had to pay for, when it came to lite that the salesman used the car wash service as a ‘free’ benefit to persuade us move forward on the deal. The initial impression of ‘trying to pull a fast one’ to make sure a deal is closed reflects badly on the dealership and on the salesman (either he’s living up to a sales mantra of ‘doing whatever it takes’ by making empty promises and hopefully not getting caught by the buyer or he does not know the product or the dealership’s policies). When it turned out it was not free, I do give the dealership credit though for following through on the promise made by the salesman, whereas most that I’ve dealt with have not. • Finally, the ‘10’ salesman did not ever ask me for a ‘high ranking’ of his service when surveyed by the brand and dealership regarding my experience. In fact, he never mentioned it; he was confident enough in his performance that he expected he would get all ‘10s.’ And he did. I have been in businesses where random quality surveys have been part of my performance and it was made very clear that mentioning the survey, much less asking for high marks on it, was grounds for discipline including termination. Again, this was in stark contrast to your dealership. Not only was I asked to give ‘completely satisfied’ on dealership surveys but also on any surveys issued by the brand. This invariably taints the survey results (either people agree to do it and inflate scores, or others, like me, will view it as unseemly and mark the whole experience down lower than what it might actually have been scored). This is why I am writing this email to give you in person feedback to do with what you will. These are the primary reasons why David Maus received an 8-9 on my car purchase experience scale. Even if I hadn’t already experienced the ‘10’ salesman, the David Maus VW experience likely still would not be the standard against which I would measure my future car buying experiences. But right now you are in the top quartile. I will say I would come back to your VW dealership to give you another chance to earn my business when I am shopping for another car. More
