Seemed great at first This is an update to a previous great review...I'll keep it as short as possible. Drove there from PA knowing what I was most likely going to purchase This is an update to a previous great review...I'll keep it as short as possible. Drove there from PA knowing what I was most likely going to purchase and had already been approved for financing that was done through email with Northway. Got down there, looked the 08' Nissan Xterra over and it seemed pretty good. It was obvious that the tires were not going to pass inspection and the exhaust would need replacing in the near future but they dropped the price for me when I brought those things to their attention, Great! Took it for a test drive and it drove just fine. Did the paperwork, slapped on the temp plates and off I went. Luckily there was a gas station across the street and thank god for that because the gauge was literally on E which I did notice beforehand but I don't like to be a pain so I let it go. I got about 15 mins away and received a call from Northway saying they had me fill out the wrong paperwork...ok, no problem, accidents happen. Took care of that and off I went again. When it was time for my temp plates to expire I called Northway telling them that they had not sent me my permanent plates yet. I was given the excuse that because I live outside of NJ it takes a while. I don't believe that excuse but I let it go because they sent me new temp plates. By the time they sent me my permanent plates I had 1 day to get my vehicle inspected...that sucks but ok, took a day off from work and brought the vehicle to a trusted shop. I received a call from the shop a couple hours later saying that they can't pass the vehicle because it needs ball joints and both rear axel seals were leaking gear oil...a $1,400 repair. I called Northway and explained the situation in hopes that they would do the right thing and help me out on the bill. I told them that I wasn't upset about the ball joints but would like some help with replacing the axel seals which was about $800 of the bill. The response I received was "well I wish I knew about this sooner and maybe I could've helped". Yeah, I wish my permanent plates came sooner and we both would've known sooner. Northway did ask me to email pics of the leaking axel and pics of the tires with gear oil all over them. After sending 2 emails from my phone and 2 emails from my laptop I was told that the emails were not going through...funny how the email worked just fine when I was inquiring about the vehicle and doing the credit app. In all fairness this was 2 days, I believe, after my 1 month warranty was up (suspicious how that worked out with the plates) and it is on me for not having the vehicle inspected immediately after getting home, but on their website it clearly states that a certified mechanic inspects the vehicles before they are sold. Well because of the severity of the axel seals leaking it was clear that the problem was not only overlooked but had been covered up. There wasn't a single wet mark when I looked at the car before purchasing it and it was very clear to my mechanic that this was definitely not a new problem. In short, learn from my mistake and get the vehicle inspected by your mechanic ASAP or better yet, stay away from this place. I can't difinitively put the blame on Northway because it may have been the mechanic who does the inspection but I can tell you that they will more than likely not help you out if there is a problem. Quick and easy. Since we knew exactly what we wanted, and found the exact make, model, year, and miles on a used Odyssey, there really wasn't much to do but show up, Since we knew exactly what we wanted, and found the exact make, model, year, and miles on a used Odyssey, there really wasn't much to do but show up, drive it, and make the decision. The vehicle was sound save for a few small things, which they promptly checked and resolved (radio needed to be programmed after a the main battery was replaced and a loose spare tire mount making noise when we drive it). Overall the process was the easiest I've ever had when buying a car. They seemed to have a nice selection and the Odyssey I was looking at was the best price I found, hence why I drove an hour to this place to see it and then pick it up a few days later. I got my own financing ahead of time so it was an extremely quick and easy transaction. No games, up front and honest, no complaints . I would certainly check them out again if I ever needed a used car again. More
