Very typical car dealer I had hopes this experience would be different than every other car dealer experience but I was very disappointed. The sales manager came over and exp I had hopes this experience would be different than every other car dealer experience but I was very disappointed. The sales manager came over and explained that the salesman doesn't get commission and they just want us to have a good experience. We found a car we wanted and the price was fair. They have no haggle pricing. Then came time to talk about our trade in. We traded in a 2009 Toyota Corolla XLE which had 181,000 miles. It certainly wasn't perfect but was in overall good condition. No body damage, no cracked glass, no torn seats or carpet stains, no mismatched wheels or tires and it ran and drove fine. The salesman came back with a print out showing that the Corolla's Kelly Blue Book trade in value was $400!!! He said they could give us more like $1500 though, both of which made me see red. I advised him that I just looked up the trade in value on KBB 2 days before & it was $2329. He said we could look it up together which we did. When he got to the condition, he said he determined it was in "Fair"condition which is the lowest rating. I advised I understood it wasn't in "Excellent" or even "Very Good" condition which are the top 2, but it was in "Good" condition which is 1 step up from "Fair". I just about lost my mind! He said he could check with the mgr. Then the salesman & mgr start heading out to the car without saying anything to me. I invited myself & went out with them. The mgr was closely inspecting everything, pulling on the edges of the bumper covers, etc. Then he was looking at the windshield seals & asked if the windshield had been replaced(as if that would decrease the value). I informed him that it had not & still had the Toyota logo in the corner. I went for a ride with the mgr who just kept blaming KBB for the low value saying they're very conservative. I kept pointing out that it was the people at the dealership who decided incorrectly that the car was in "Fair"condition, but he kept ignoring what I was saying. When we got back, he asked the typical dealer question, "What are you trying to accomplish?" I told him to just give me $2500 for the trade in & we could make a deal. He went back to his desk & came back with an offer of $2350 for the trade in saying he had to "override the system". We already had our own financing. We completed the deal, but not without having to watch their every move & call them out when they were trying to rip us off on the trade in. Makes me feel sorry for people who go there or any dealer & don't know much about cars or don't research their trade in value. Be very careful! They'll take advantage of you if you let them. More
