Overcharged for a known defect Our 2008 Civic developed the known issue stated in the technical service bulletin 10-048, where the engine block developed a crack, leaked coolant, an Our 2008 Civic developed the known issue stated in the technical service bulletin 10-048, where the engine block developed a crack, leaked coolant, and eventually overheated. Even though Honda extended the warranty to 10 years for the defect, our car fell just 7 months outside that period. We were originally quoted $7600 for a whole new engine which would only come with a 12/12 warranty. Obviously this was a terrible option for a car which at best could be traded for $5000. Later the service rep quoted us a 90k remanufactured engine for $3600; also out of the question. When it came to light that this was a known issue, the dealership refused to honor the warranty as the original and Certified Pre-owned purchase dates both fell outside the extended warranty period by a mere 7 months. After pushing on the rep and their manager to escalate our case to the regional manager, we were offered an out of warranty goodwill replacement where we would pay 25% cost. Given the go-ahead to order parts on Tuesday, our service advisor told us we would have our car back by Friday at the latest. In actuality, we did not pick it up for over a week, throughout which our service advisor was never honest about the progress or when the repairs would be complete. Adding insult to injury, during the rebuild process we were informed that two hoses, the thermostat, and five clamps needed to be replaced. All of which could have been noted during the initial tear-down and quoted beforehand. Instead these additions came right at the end, holding our vehicle hostage for an additional day. While we did not pay for labor, the parts cost was less than 10% of the repair, which we felt could have been made complementary in compensation for the extended delay. Even though Muller Honda is our closest official service facility, we will not be returning and have been turned off purchasing a Honda ever again. New tire installation. The new tires were installed at an affordable price. I dropped off the vehicle at 9:00 and was given a loaner car. My only complaint is that I was told it would be ready by late afternoon, but ended up not being ready until the following afternoon. I didn't receive a phone call letting me know this beforehand. I called the service department the next late morning and the guy I spoke to couldn't tell me when it would be done. A little disappointing. More
