I drove two hours one way yesterday (11/16/2019) and unfortunately experienced MotorWorld Toyota’s bait and switch tactic. I was given an internet sales quote for a 2019 RAV4 XLE. The Internet Sales quo unfortunately experienced MotorWorld Toyota’s bait and switch tactic. I was given an internet sales quote for a 2019 RAV4 XLE. The Internet Sales quote was $24,369 and it also stated that the exact vehicle MSRPs for $30,512. I exchanged several emails with one of the salesmen over the course of nine days regarding this specific vehicle and internet pricing, letting him know multiple times that I lived 2 hours away and was only willing to make the drive if I knew all the details of the possible transaction such as, final price of car, interest rate range, approximate monthly payment window, etc. But, when I arrived for my appointment the salesman told me that the vehicle had supposedly been donated that morning to a charity, The United Way. I felt that was a little suspicious considering that they never had photos posted online of this specific vehicle... probably because they never even had it! (At the time I assumed they had just gain possession of the car and perhaps didn’t have a chance to get photos of it to post on their website yet. They had all the specifications listed, so I wasn’t concerned about the photos as I knew it was a brand new vehicle.) So, they had me drive four hours round trip and spend 6 hours of my Saturday just to try to pressure me into buying different models, that of course cost significantly more ($27-$33,000) than the online special I was quoted. When I requested that they find another RAV4 with the same specifications on one of their sister lots, and run the original numbers I was quoted, they then claimed that the internet special price was a “typo” and that it was supposed to be for an LE (base trim model). Although the MSRP price in the internet special email I received was correct for the XLE model, a little high perhaps, but definitely not for an LE. Then they stated that they were not able to honor their mistake, even though I had brought a copy of the email to make sure I was able to prove that’s what I was quoted. It was one excuse after another. I can only imagine how many people they are actually able to con and trick into thinking they’re still getting good deals with this scam. Then to make matters worse, they returned my possible trade-in from their appraisal with a flat tire! All they did was patch it. If they were honest from the beginning and gave me a courtesy call to let me know the vehicle was no longer available (if it ever was to begin with), I would have never made the 174 mile drive to their dealership and in turn, would have never gotten a flat! I’ve never had such a terrible experience or been treated with such disrespect during a car buying experience. I would never recommend this dealership to anyone! Buy your car anywhere else. More
