MotorWorld Chrysler Dodge Jeep responded

Many clients may look at the difference between their trade amount and a List Price and think similarly. Without getting too much in-detail, we can say that making a trade-in “Lot-Ready” can cost thousands of dollars. Please consider the costs of a thorough, 100+ point inspection, and any repairs needed to make the vehicle qualify for a warranty – I think we all agree that vehicle repairs – like seemingly everything else these days, are not inexpensive. Just consider how much tires and brakes alone cost in today’s economy! And if you’ve been on our lot lately, you’ll notice that our clean-up and polish efforts are exemplary – we spend a lot of time cleaning, shampooing, de-greasing, polishing and other touch-ups to make our cars beautiful. There are legitimate costs associated with these actions. Think of it: how much would you have to pay to have an ASE Certified Mechanic check virtually every part and mechanism on your vehicle, fix everything they find that is wrong or that won’t last much longer, then make the car look new again? All of our cars come with a warranty. A warranty is simply an insurance policy that we purchase for EVERY unit on our lot – because we ensure that every vehicle we offer qualifies for a warranty. So we add all of those costs to the cost of the trade-in. We List the vehicle according to Market Condition Retail prices, and hopefully are able to sell the vehicle somewhere between Market Retail and what we own the vehicle for. This is a business, and understandably we do try to make a reasonable profit. Market Conditions set both trade-in and retail price factors. Built-in to those factors is an inherent risk assumed by the dealer: if we can’t sell your trade, your trade goes to auction and is sold to the highest bidder. And if the highest bidder bids less than what we own the car for? We lose money. It’s a risk associated with taking trade-ins. Every trade is unique and different, but we wanted to take a moment to explain the trade-in process, and hopefully shed some light on the situation. Thank you!
