I did a bunch of research before going to the dealer to test drive a Honda Pilot. I was up front and informed both the salesman, Wes, and sales manager, Felicia, that I had done a lot of research. I also explained that I knew I would most likely have to “order” the car as they had no inventory on the lot for the model I desired. We agreed on a price and I asked them to remove the $2,095 in accessories (wheel locks $169, windshield protection 3-yr $799, clear mask $299, window tint $299, pro pack $633) because my wife and I did not want those accessories. Also, the price for the those items was at least twice what their own dealership parts department charged to purchase them. Unfortunately, the sales manager, Felicia, explained, “I cannot remove these charges/accessories, because our dealership installs these items as part of the standard delivery inspection.” When I asked to not have these installed as part of the delivery inspection, she said “that is not possible.” I explained that “I understood the current market and how I knew they would most likely convince someone else to buy the vehicle with those optional items, but I was hoping to buy the car for my wife from them as my local dealer.” This personal plug was summarily ignored (and not unexpected). It was very obvious, Felicia was not willing to negotiate. Thus, my wife and I left the dealership. The irony of the situation is that had Felicia been willing to discuss options and negotiate with us for other dealer installed parts that I did desire, I most likely would have spent more than the $2,095 in accessories and improved the dealer profits for the vehicle. It is unfortunate that Mike Moroone Honda is willing to say to my face they are proud of their transparent buying process, when they are willing to charge customers twice the retail price of their own parts department for optional accessory add-ons (yes, I am tracking their are some labor costs involved for installation). We had a very positive experience with our salesman Wes. I would work with hime again, for sure. As for his bosses and above, I highly recommend looking elsewhere before purchasing a vehicle from Maroone Honda, else you will pay a lot of money for feature you may not want…and they are options, not standard installed equipment. I wish I could have bought the car from you Wes. More
