Sometimes when looking to purchase a quality used car, we never stop to think about the risk the dealer takes in procuring that vehicle before you do. In my case, I was searching for a clean, low mileage Trailblazer SS and found my dream car at Mid-Towne Auto Center in Franklin, Ohio. Mid-Town Auto Center takes great pride in their mission to provide hand picked, high quality, low mileage automobiles for their clientele and my SS is a great example. Considering that I would have to buy the car unseen and have it shipped several hundred miles to my home, I was concerned with the overall condition of the car and wanted no surprises. Brad Reffitt, Assistant Manager, assured me that Mid-Towne pays a premium, when they initially purchase a vehicle, that allows them 48 hours to do a thorough inspection at their facility to make sure there are no undetected problems before they accept a new vehicle for their lot. That inspection did not reveal anything wrong with the car, and Carfax did not indicate any problems. I personally called and talked with the service manager at the Chevrolet dealership that had sold the car new and serviced it all its life and he did not recall any unusual problems with the car. Brad recommended, for additional peace of mind, that I contact Lemon Squad to have the car inspected by an outside independent certified mechanic who drove it, checked codes and went over it with a fine tooth comb. Again, no significant issues were reported. The night I took delivery and started up the car, the engine sounded like it had one or more stuck lifters. A local mechanic suggested that I have a professional look into the problem and we found catastrophic damage to the lifters and camshaft with a significant amount of metal filings in the oil. The recommendation was to do a complete overhaul of the engine which was quoted at around $4600. There was that surprise I was worried about. I first went back to Lemon Squad, for relief, because their mechanic had been the one to do the on-site inspection. The only thing they would do was refund my $139.00 inspection fee. When I ultimately contacted Brad at Mid-Towne, it was to only let him know what I had run into. I didn't feel they they had any responsibility for this because the car had been professionally inspected at least three times before I bought it and I had declined Mid-Towne's extended service policy offer. Brad responded immediately with genuine concern and ask me if I had contacted Lemon Squad. After hearing that Lemon Squad would only refund my fee, he said "our goal is 100% customer satisfaction, let me see what we can do". I told him that I didn't think they had any fault here but that anything they could do would certainly help. Within 24 hours, Brad called me to let me know they were going to cover the entire $4600 engine rebuild!! This is unheard of in this business and this type of customer care is the reason their reviews and ratings are so favorable. I still get emotional as I write this, because it was so totally unexpected. I have found a dealer with a staff that will go beyond your expectations to get you into the car of your dreams and keep you coming back for the next one. Thank you Mid-Towne Auto Center.
