Brought my 2007 S550 in on July 2, 2021 for confirmation/replacement of a failing starter battery and reprogramming of a malfuntioning clock and navigation system (GPS position errors), the lat confirmation/replacement of a failing starter battery and reprogramming of a malfuntioning clock and navigation system (GPS position errors), the latter of which I had seen addressed in a YouTube video and mentioned in my work request. At the end of the day, they came back with an estimate for $9423.24 for a slew of items including an accessory battery they had already replaced in May 2019 and $634 for a new clock. They had also done the same “free” inspection on my car only 11 months earlier and less than 500 miles on the car since then with none of the discrepancies found on this visit; nor had I seen any symptoms of the conditions they described. I contacted MB of Memphis and got an immediate response from their service manager that there was indeed a firmware update that could fix my clock for $145. I forwarded the MB of Memphis email to MB of Collierville service agent “Courtnay” but she did not even acknowledge receipt of the email, let alone pass it along as requested to the MB of Collierville Service Manager. I picked up my car and paid $337.09 with nothing having been accomplished that I had already told them was needed. I was told that if I came back in during the next 30 days the 2-hour minimum shop fee would apply to any repair I chose to have done from the list of discrepancies they documented. Since I had paid the $337.09, I took the car back in within the required timeframe and had the starter battery replaced. The original service agent, Courtnay, told me that the application of the shop fee would not apply to the starter battery replacement, which was a direct contradiction to her words described above. Working with a different service agent, he at least agreed to not charge for the hour of labor to replace the starter battery. I also took the car to MB of Memphis and had the firmware update programmed, which did indeed fix the clock issue for $145 vs the $634 quoted by MB of Collierville. Neither MB of Collierville nor MB of Memphis performed any update on the navigation programming, but at least MB of Memphis did not charge me 2 hours of labor to check it out. I can only conclude that replacement of the starter battery may have caused an update or reboot to occur uncommanded, as MB of Collierville found no problem and I have had no further navigation problems since. I sent an email directly to the General Manager of MB of Collierville, Mr. Hajdini, protesting the questionable service issues described above. He never responded. More
