I brought my 2023 Forester in for an oil change and tire rotation. Service Advisor Brayan Tobar strongly suggested I have them change my differential fluids at 17,000 miles. I thought that 17,000 miles was rotation. Service Advisor Brayan Tobar strongly suggested I have them change my differential fluids at 17,000 miles. I thought that 17,000 miles was kind of low to change those fluids but agreed to the work. I trusted him. I later find that those fluids can last 60,000 miles. $400 for unneeded work. Thanks Brayan! I used to go to McKenna Subaru for service and didn't really have any thoughts about them, but now this place became the worst place for me to go, and I wouldn't recommend you to go there if you care abo really have any thoughts about them, but now this place became the worst place for me to go, and I wouldn't recommend you to go there if you care about your car and also care about the customer service. I visited here for the recall service, and when I came home, I noticed that there was a scratch on my car. Couple facts: 1. It's true that I didn't notice the scratch for roughly about 3 months, but I don't drive this car often. (700 miles driven for 3 months which is roughly 3 weeks worth of driving for an average person.) 2. Scratch is on the rear bumper right above the carbon fiber diffuser where it is not too obvious to notice. 3. My car alarm history shows ONE AND ONLY ONE saying that it went off due to SHOCK (impact) on the day it was at the dealer the whole 24 hours. I called the dealer, and the customer service sent email to the service manager (Andrea Pandell), but I got no callbacks. I called the service manager (Andrea Pandell) directly the whole week, but got nothing back. When I emailed the her, that's when she called back, but gave ridiculous response and said she'll look into it. She ask why it took me three months to notice. So I asked her back saying if she doesn't trust her own dealer that she has to check closely on the car to make sure the TRUSTED dealer did something shady and not notify the customer. Also, I drove 700 miles total for 3 months when they use the statistic of average person driving 1000 miles per month. Lastly, the scratch is in the rear bumper, so depending on when you go back there to check, you wouldn't notice it easily. Couple days later, the service advisor (Stephen Ruzek) who took care of my car at the time of recall service called to find out what's happening and told me that he'll go find out. This was the last time that I heard from McKenna Subaru, never got any updates, never responded to my call and emails. Called Subaru corporate, told me that this is is "Workmanship" concern and should be handled directly by McKenna, but the problem is that they are being crickets and not even helping at all, so calling Subaru Corporate was useless. I saw people on yelp putting negative comments and got responses from "McKenna" representatives, so I emailed the customer service of McKenna cars directly (Not McKenna Subaru dealer), but got no response at all there too. Did McKenna Subaru really scratch my car? Who knows. But I'm asking McKenna Subaru for help look into it and let me know if they are not at a fault because my alarm went off on that day, and no one has told me anything on why it went off. Paint repair technicians are also saying that this is a scratch coming from the side so I couldn't have made the damage. Also, there's white car paint on the scratch when my car is black. This tells me that they may have driven other customer's car and scratched my car with that customer's car. So the question is, if McKenna Subaru really did the damage to my car, was the white car owner notified with this? All it takes is for them to look into the security camera like the service manager was saying and let me know, but again, they are not helping and not responding at all for more than a month now. Again, I would definitely not recommend this place if you care about your car and the customer service. To McKenna cars customer reps: please don't reply to my xxxx comment and say "We are sorry to hear that. Reach out to this email" when I already did. More
In August of 2020 I purchased a new car and a service warranty from McKenna Subaru that covered my first four tire rotations and oil changes. The term of this warranty was two years. In January of 2022 warranty from McKenna Subaru that covered my first four tire rotations and oil changes. The term of this warranty was two years. In January of 2022 I was informed by McKenna the term of my agreement was extended by 1 year, to August of 2023. Today, 6/19/2023, I brought my car into McKenna for my fourth and final warranty covered service. The service department just informed me the terms of my warranty were changed and my warranty expired on June 1, 2023. I was informed this decision was made three days prior to June 1st and McKenna did not inform impacted customers like me. McKenna and Subaru are not honest people. Do not buy a car here and do not trust anything they tell you. Even if you have it in writing, it means nothing to McKenna. More
This dealership and Thomas Esparza, deserves 10 Stars! I had been dealing with rude and slimy car salespeople in S. California for quite a while until I found McKenna Subaru in Huntington Beach. And thank I had been dealing with rude and slimy car salespeople in S. California for quite a while until I found McKenna Subaru in Huntington Beach. And thank the Lord I did! I stepped into the dealership I was greeted with respect and genuine kindness. Thomas is the ultimate professional and is a gem! He is a really good guy, an army vet, and so easy to deal with. He's patient and so knowledgeable. I could not have asked for a better car buying experience. And it was this way all around the dealership. No attitudes, no fakeness, no hidden fees! If you want to avoid the usual xx, reach out to Thomas tesparza@mckennacars.com or call and ask for him. He made a very stressful experience of car buying a delight and was a complete professional. I urge everyone that reads my review to reach out to him. His direct email is tesparza@mckennacars.com or you can call the dealership and ask for him. Thank you, Thomas! More
This review is for service since I bought my Subaru in Santa Monica. It’s also for Brayan Tobar, the most wonderful service advisor. I’m genuinely so appreciative of the service I most recently received a Santa Monica. It’s also for Brayan Tobar, the most wonderful service advisor. I’m genuinely so appreciative of the service I most recently received at McKenna in September and October 2022. My engine was leaking some oil and my warranty had just expired less than a month prior. The cost to fix it was going to be astronomical given the value of my car. McKenna was able to provide an adjusted quote that worked with Subaru of America (corporate) so that I personally did not have to pay anything out of pocket. Corporate’s goodwill gesture was more than I could have hoped for and has definitely showed me they stand behind their cars and I will continue to too, beyond the several people I’ve already talked into buying the Crosstrek. I’m also beyond thankful that Brayan was working the day I took my vehicle in for its routine maintenance. He stepped in and advocated for me and my vehicle from the start. The repairs were a lengthy process, but it did not cost me anything financially and I was given a rental car to drive the entire time. My car has been back on the road and running great for two months now. Thanks Brayan for your fantastic customer service - I wish there were more like you out there in the auto industry. See you again in a couple months! (: More
In these times of car shortages there's barging room so buying a car was cute and dry. A least there was nothing added to the sticker price like several of the other Subaru dealership I had contact with. buying a car was cute and dry. Last service was once again great. I took my vehicle in for 3rd 6 mo service and all went well as did the previous visits where the service rep made sure there was good communication. When checking in, I for 3rd 6 mo service and all went well as did the previous visits where the service rep made sure there was good communication. When checking in, I asked for a battery check because of the low voltage readings I was getting from the vehicle's Factory Mode. Service technician Phil went above the call of duty when he came out to talk to me and provide details and later he phoned me at home to provide additional details. He also gave me his personal cell phone number. CUDOS TO PHIL IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. Another comment, I always have my tires rotated at the visit for the oil change. I follow the ½ X (crossover) rotation pattern. I always take photos of the tires-wheels to document the unique mounting positions of each tire to valve stem. Then I check for the correct location of 3 of the tires. Rotations have been correctly performed for all my visits. This is to note that I do verify some of the service and find myself happy with the results. Also note that an imbedded screw was found in a tire during my second service. This could have only been found by a complete tread inspection of the tire since there was no detectable loss of air pressure in my tires. Ending with a SHOUTOUT FOR PHIL in the service department. Thanks Phil for you special efforts to make a customer happy. More
