My sister brought her car in for 1 year service, they kept it for 3 days and when it was time to pick it up she asked them why it took so long, they said “oh it’s in perfect condition, you can pick it up.” Meanwhile my sister goss to pick up their car and the Volvo service department cracked their entire windshield without explanation or saying that it was cracked. Sister drove it off the lot to turn around and ask why it was cracked, they said “oh it came in like that”- then after several phone calls they admitted that they cracked it in the car wash from the “water pressure of the hot and cold” but “they are not liable for it.” Sent my sister a bill for $1500 if they want it replaced. Tried to call general manager Adam several times but no one ever gets back to us about what happened and they keep saying oh it was there before. Completely unprofessional, never heard of such a terrible experience! Would give a zero star!!! Never work with Nick or Anna the service manager, unless you want to pay for a cracked windshield that you didn’t cause! DON’T GO TO THIS LOCATION! More

I really want to tell you about a horrible service experience at McGrath Volvo Cars Barrington. The reason for my last visit on 01/082021 was to replace the driver's seat heater. Having stated the pro experience at McGrath Volvo Cars Barrington. The reason for my last visit on 01/082021 was to replace the driver's seat heater. Having stated the problem, McGrath Volvo Cars Barrington acknowledged the problem and agreed to replace the element under warranty with a delivery time of 4-5 business days. As a result, Mark Kuzniar (Assistant Service Manager) made an appointment with me two weeks later on 22/01/2012. Before handing over the car, I showed Mark that all the parts in the interior were clean and undamaged, to which he agreed. I asked how long the service would take ? Mark said about 2-2.5 hours. As a result I was in the service for 4.5 hours. After getting the car back I found out that the driver's door trim and steering wheel was damaged. Later I also found scratches on the plastic and leather of the armrest cover. After inspecting the damage, Mark told me that the scratch on the door trim was deep and they would replace it under warranty and that he would contact me shortly. On Saturday 23/01/2012 Mark contacted me and told me that they could not replace the parts under warranty and offered to do an alignment as compensation, I refused and asked for my request, to replace the damaged parts. On Monday I sent an email to Bogdan Chmielewski (Service Manager) with the question. What options could they offer to remedy the situation and how will they compensate my time? The answer was "We already re-balanced your tires in your last visit at the expense of service. Alignment we could do complimentary if you decide to replace your tires, here. As for replacing your interior parts, we will decline. Unfortunately with removal of a seat sometimes damage does occur which is why we waive responsibility in all cases. On the repair order with your signature, it states "we are not responsible for loss or damage to vehicle". Granted mistakes do happen and Mark had offered for our interior repair company to do repairs. If you decide to get it done let us know and we will schedule.» After calling Mark several times, he offered me the option of Friday at 10 a.m. On Saturday 23/01/2012 Mark contacted me and told me that they could not replace the parts under warranty and offered to do an alignment as compensation, I refused and asked for my request, to replace the damaged parts. Own 2 Volvos purchased from Barrington Volvo in 1998 and 2003, and have had them serviced there ever since. Both cars have well over 100,000 miles and are still going strong. The Sales and Service experien 2003, and have had them serviced there ever since. Both cars have well over 100,000 miles and are still going strong. The Sales and Service experiences have been excellent, and other family members have also purchased from them. I appreciate their no frills, high quality approach, and trust the service department implicitly. Service has been very accomodating, adjusting to when I can bring the cars in, and often has a loaner vehicle available for me. Note that I don't ask for one all the time... just when the work is going to take a half-day or more. Small example of them going above and beyond without mentioning it -- replaced my remote key fob that was cracking, primarily because I'd dropped it one too many times! On at least 2 occasions while sitting in the waiting area, I've talked to other customers who come from great distances in the Chicago area to get their car serviced here, passing other Volvo dealers on the way. I can't think of a higher recommendation. More
One of the worst cases of customer service I have EVER experienced. My wife and I bought an XC90 from Volvo Tinley Park this past winter. Barrington Volvo wouldn't come down anywhere near the price Tinl experienced. My wife and I bought an XC90 from Volvo Tinley Park this past winter. Barrington Volvo wouldn't come down anywhere near the price Tinley Park offered. No real complaint there, just a difference in margins and business practice. Yesterday (10/1/09) my wife and I dropped her XC90 off at Barrington Volvo to get an oil change and to check a few minor noises. The actual service tech I spoke with was knowledgable and while I had to call him to get an update overall was happy with the actual service performed. I confirmed that the cashier would be on site until 6pm. I left Oak Brook at ~4:40pm (normal commute of ~45minutes). Due to severe weather and accidents on the roadways at 5:45pm I determined I would be late to pick up the car. I called, asked to speak with the cashier (who was friendly) and asked if I could pay via credit card over the phone. She said that was no problem and asked if I would like the key left in the car or at the sales desk. As I didn't have a spare key with me I asked if it would be a problem to pick it up at the sales desk. She confirmed that would not be an issue and that the paperwork would be ready upon my arrival. At 6:22pm I arrived at the dealership and went to the sales desk (note - there were no customers in the building at this time). The person who greeted me was nice enough - got the credit card receipt for me to sign and handed me the key. As I turn to leave, Franz, says "weren't you supposed to be here at 6:00pm?" I responded "Yeah, it took me over an hour and a half to get here - that's why I called the cashier ahead of time." Franz: "well, we are doing you a favor and you really should have been here at 6:00." Me: "Wait, a second are you actually hasseling me?" Franz" "Yes" Me: "You've got to be kidding me, you really want to throw away our service over 20 minutes?" Franz: "Yeah, it doesn't matter." (as Franz is now shoeing me out of the dealership) Me "I am literally shocked; this car has less than 20,000 miles and you don't want a chance to service it for the life of the car?" Franz: "No." Franz "You didn't even buy your car here" "Good night" Me "Not sure how that makes a difference, if you are servicing the car" Franz "Good night" Me "Excuse me are you the manager?" Franz "What does that matter?" Me: "I doubt the manager wouldn't like to lose business" Franz "It doesn't matter. Good night" (Door shuts) Upon arriving at home I find that the license plate holders have been replaced with "Barrington Volvo" holders. Unbelievable. I will NEVER go to that store for sales or service. In fact, I am so torn up by the situation that I would seriously consider ever buying another Volvo. I have had no issues with my Acura and recieve courtesy service every time. Avoid the Barrington Volvo dealership at all costs. More
