This is one of those unfortunate events. We have a dozen reps at any given time helping customers with their vehicle purchase. This car was available and we full heartedly wanted to sell it to Mr. Brooks. As soon as it was sold Mr. Brooks sales rep called to inform him so that he would not make the full trip and think that we were misleading him on the vehicles original availability when he arrived. I was asked to speak with him when he was upset. During my conversation with him I asked if we had offered him a chance to put down a deposit to secure the vehicle. He said no but when we discussed what that would have entailed he said he would not have taken that option because he was not sure about the car yet. Our policy is a $1000 deposit to take a vehicle off the market. Common with local and out of state customers. I also tried to explain that it would have been unfair to other customers to hold the car for him without the deposit especially since he was not ready to commit. I explained that we would have been in a bad position if he did not show or decided he did not like it. That would risk us losing customers like the one who actually purchased the car. He still felt that he was entitled to first option on the car. I did not offer to sell it to him over the customer who had already committed to the purchase only that I would speak with the sales manager regarding his stance. He was driving and understandably frustrated at the time so I guess you can excuse some of the inaccuracies. We did contact Mr. Brooks after his review to try to resolve his concerns and address those inaccuracies. Unfortunately the vehicle he was coming to see was rare. Only 4 in a 300 mile radius and with 60,000 less miles than it should have had for the year and was hard to replicate. I'm sure this was a major aspect in his frustration. We understand that but just request that he puts up the right details.
