10/2021TLDR: purchased used car early in the year, 10/2021 TLDR: purchased used car early in the year, given new car warranty as opposed to used after deceitful salesman made several errors in submi 10/2021 TLDR: purchased used car early in the year, given new car warranty as opposed to used after deceitful salesman made several errors in submission of warranty, spoke with very hostile employee who refused accountability of dealership errors. If you're thinking about going to Matthew's for your next vehicle, don't. Go to gault or feduke. I purchased a vehicle at the end of January. With this purchase, I also got the extended warranty through Zurich for peace of mind (5 years/65k miles comprehensive from that dates odometer reading). I signed everything I agreed to and at the end of the day, I though all was well. I recieved a call a week or 2 later to come back in and sign some more paperwork. I work 8-4 and it takes me some time to get there, so by the time I got there it was close to the time they close. I was told the bank wouldn't cover their rewards program so it would lower the payment about $15 per month. I had some papers thrown in my face in the waiting area. When asked explicitly if anything else had changed outside of the rewards program and I was assured that nothing did and I was rushed out. Recently I came across said warranty. There were 2 copies of the bill and warranty, both with the same date. The warranties were vastly different. The one I found was a new car warranty for 5 years/60k miles calculated from 0 miles. As I purchased a vehicle with 43k miles, that one wouldn't make sense as the comprehensive I agreed to initially was only $800 more and a much better deal since the car is used. I thought there must have been a mix up. I called Zurich who confirmed the warranty that was submitted was the latter, leaving me with paying an extra 2000 for a warranty for 17k miles. As opposed to about 2800 for the full comprehensive for a used vehicle which was to last 5 years and a little over 100k miles. The representative I spoke with urged that I speak with the dealership as this warranty was submitted 3 separate times due to errors, something they stated was not normal, especially given the circumstances. As instructed I returned to Matthew's. Never have I felt more belittled in my life. The first individual that was avaliable told me that the individual who I worked with was "tied up" and that he would do what he could while the individual I worked with finished up what he was doing, so we stepped into his office. Once I explained the situation and requested a remedy to it, this is where the situation really turned south. The individual I spoke with was very very very hostile. I wish I got his name, but he was the 2nd office to the left of the cashier's counter. Once he realized I wasn't looking for a quick cancelation and to buy the other warranty outright within the first few minutes, he no longer wanted to speak. Their in and out policy is likely the root of their error submission rate. When I took my phone out to call the warranty company, I was told that he didn't have time for me as he was "working with another client" No other clients were there and we were in his office. I was a burden and calling the warranty company would confirm the error in submission. By this point, I was angry at the dismissal. I questioned whether or not this was standard practice. I stated that " You (Matthew's) make errors and then refuse to remedy them and say "xxxx you" when the buyer comes back in and points out the error." He responded with a snide comment " well I'm not the one cursing." As well as " you can sign documents in the Wegman's parking lot for all the state cares." He stated that if I came in within 2 months "maybe we would help you." He also asked if I had used the warranty, which I have not, making it sound as though he was planning to use that as another excuse to refuse any assistance with the situation. He reiterated several times that the individual I initially worked with was no longer employed there. Interesting since he had just said that he was "tied up." At the end he stated he would also be upset with the situation if it was him, but clearly didn't care since it wasn't him. More
