Ripped off I was sold a vehicle with a bad transmission despite mentioning during the test drive that it shifted hard and I suspected a transmission problem only I was sold a vehicle with a bad transmission despite mentioning during the test drive that it shifted hard and I suspected a transmission problem only to be reassured that I was just not used to the horse power, the vehicle had been checked out by certified mechanics, and the transmission was fine. Immediately after leaving the dealership, my onstar diagnostic returned a bad transmission code. The best the dealership would offer me was trading it in for another vehicle for 10,000 more dollars saying I purchased it as is and it was my problem. I took the vehicle to a Buick service department and was informed that in fact it did have a bad transmission and it would be a $2100 job. The used car sales manager Winston Angel lied to me saying he listened to my onstar conversation which was verified by onstar that he did not and that would have been a violation of the privacy act. I ended up trading the vehicle at another dealership who treated me honestly and fairly. I would not recommend Mathews Nissan to anyone. More
My wife was looking for a SUV. We went to Gary Mathews to look and test drove a Nissan Murano. She loved it, but it was not the color she liked. The dealership was able to find her one in the right color wit look and test drove a Nissan Murano. She loved it, but it was not the color she liked. The dealership was able to find her one in the right color with the right options within 100 miles. We then negotiated on a price. Their first offer on a 40,000 dollar vehicle was 37,000. Well we knew that it was a 2013 model and had 3,000 in rebates, so essentially they gave 0 discount. Keep in mind 2014s are already released in that model. We haggled and came to an agreed upon price. When I filled out the credit application I noticed they wanted me to sign a paper which has a list of like 20 banks on it to release my information to. I told the salesman that I was going through Nissan, or my bank USAA only. He told me it was common place just to sign it anyway. I was approved, but had to wait on the finance lady who had some guy in her office with his feet kicked up before we were taken care of. In her office she said she had been busy all day and a lot of people hadn't even had time to eat lunch (says the women with fast food in her small trash can from two different places). My wife and I learned that the interest rate was 3.59, but we qualified through NMAC at tier 1 (I have great credit). I wasn't about to finance the car for only 36 months with tier 1 credit for 3.59. Then found out there were more rebates while looking over the paperwork that we were not told of. They essentially tried to pull one over on us. We asked for ALL the rebates to be explained on the paperwork. They didn't discount the car a dollar, but made it look like they were coming down in price by not being truthful. My wife said this is not what a car buying experience should be... we should be excited and putting our names on the paperwork, etc... not trying to haggle over hidden rebates. We decided just to leave. The sales manager actually tried to tell my wife sorry we couldn't do business and shake her hand. She just turned and walked away. Maybe if he had been truthful. Then this week I get a letter in the mail from them with a credit rejection. Well guess what... we bought a 50,000 Lexus two days ago and financed through Lexus-tier 1. I guess my credit sucked that bad... I believe they did this to spite us. I believe Mathews Nissan has great salesmen, but their other staff should all be in the unemployment line. I knew something was up when I saw the dealer add-ons... not something you can use like nitro in the tires, or mud flaps, or something you at least receive, but get over charged for. What they offer in add ons is stuff like undercoat rust protection... never mind that Nissan has a 5 year bumper to bumper rust warranty. My advice at any Mathews... watch yourself every step of the way, because they will rip you off with a smile on their face. Read the bad reviews posted here, so you know how they will treat you. If you read the YELP reviews match those names with the staff from their website, first AND last names. GO TO NASHVILLE FOR BEST PRICE AND SERVICE/TREATMENT. More
Just to be clear, I have purchased 5 vehicles from Mathews Nissan and all from the same salesperson. My salesperson is a stand up guy and I believe to have no fault in the issue I currently have with Mathews Nissan and all from the same salesperson. My salesperson is a stand up guy and I believe to have no fault in the issue I currently have with Mathews Nissan. My 4 other purchases were of newer cars from from new car dealership, not the used dealership they now have. A couple of months ago my daily driven cars had to be sent to the repair shop for extensive repairs so I needed a cheap used car to get me by until it was done. I went to Mathews and spoke to my normal salesperson. He showed me a couple of cars that were in the price range I was looking for. I test drove VW New Beetle down the street and back and it seemed fine. I purchased it and had my wife pick it up the next day. On her way home she called me and told me that something was wrong with the transmission. I got in it and drove it the next day. Sure enough the transmission felt like it was slipping after driving it for around 20 minutes. That was a Sunday, 3 days after the purchase of the vehicle. I called my salesman and told him this car was a piece of junk. He told me to come in and see what we could do about it. I did some research on the vehicle to see if it was maybe something minor or something I could fix myself. After a few weeks of research and talking to the VW dealer in Nasvhville, it was deemed that the car needed a new transmission. $3,000 repair bill on a $6,000 car. Definitely not something I was interested in pursuing. I went to Mathews Nissan and the only thing the sales manager offered me as a fix to the issue is trading it for a different car, at trade in value of course. Overall I am very disappointed that Mathews Nissan is knowingly selling cars that are not mechanically sound and that their best offer to date has to been have it repaired at dealer cost. Still a multi-thousand dollar repair on a $6,000 car that was broken when they sold it to me. Sure, the sign says "Sold as is" but I've bought over 20 cars in my life and have never been to a dealer that sold me a broken car. More
I was shopping for a Nissan Versa or Versa Note. The salesman showed me several new 2013 Versa's, which were a great deal. However, he didn't have the color and accessory package I wanted. I asked if he salesman showed me several new 2013 Versa's, which were a great deal. However, he didn't have the color and accessory package I wanted. I asked if he could have what I wanted brought from another dealership. He said he looked online and found that there were none available within 500 miles. Then he tried to push me into buying a new 2014 Versa Note. Later that same day, I found 6 new 2012 Versa's at a Nashville dealer. Clearly he was lying to make a sale. More
