I know mini-vans are kinda lame, but I’m going to have twins soon (in addition to my 1 year old daughter… what are you gonna do?). We really liked the vehicle and were disappointed to see the “Check Engine Light/Malfunction light” pop up before we even pulled into our garage. By this time it was past 8pm and they had already closed. I really didn’t think it was a big deal.. I checked the gas cap and anything else obvious I could think of. Friday June 25th I left a message for the Sales representative whom I thought was in charge of my deal. I was just curious if I could take the vehicle to a dealer closer to my home (would shorten a 45 minute drive). Monday, June 28h I left another message for the sales representative… Starting to feel a bit uneasy about getting this taken care of. Tuesday, June 29 By now I felt I should have heard back from the salesman. I called the main number to the dealer and had them forward me to the sales representative’s cel phone. This time he answered. He told me that he had passed the info on to his boss and they should have gotten back to me. He said he would schedule me an appointment with the service department. For Saturday July 3rd. He said it would have to be at their dealer and they don’t provide loaners… Ugg Not a fun place to spend 4th of July weekend. But it was my only choice. Thursday, July 1st. I decided to call the service department to make sure the sales guy really did book my appointment. 45 minutes is a bit far to drive for nothing. The service department knew nothing of my appointment. I booked a real appointment with them and they said that I would have to wait at least an hour to get it checked out and who knows how long to fix it. They said they wouldn’t have a loaner but I could use their shuttle to anywhere in town (where am I gonna go? McDonalds? LOL). I had the service department forward me to the operator and I asked for a manager. I wanted to tell them how my sales guy never called me back and how he had never booked my appointment as promised. I was connected with a manager who politely listened to my story and promised that he would meet me in the service department to expedite the process. At last! Someone seemed to care about my problem! Saturday, July 1st I arrived for my appointment on Saturday and the guy at the service desk seemed surprised to see me. He said he knew nothing of my appointment. He was polite and said that while he was the only person working he would try and take a look real quick. I was a little shocked that my appointment wasn’t scheduled, but whatever, as long as it’s getting looked at. (and where was the nice guy who was going to meet me in the service dept to make sure everything got taken care of?) After a few minutes of Nat Geo and a snicker bar in the waiting room, the service guy comes in and tells me that there is a problem with the vehicle. Normally it cost $230 (approx), but they would do it at the cost of the part $180. My blood pressure immediately shot through the roof. (Reminder: THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED BEFORE I EVEN GOT THE VEHICLE HOME!!!) It was also supposed to come with a pretty good 2,000 mile warranty. I flipped my lid and dropped a couple obscenities. I demanded to speak to someone in charge. We walked in to the showroom and met up with the guys who were in charge. I was still beside myself with anger. I shouted back and forth with one of them who seemed ready to match my anger every step. Thank goodness he stomped away and I was able to have a more calm and dignified discussion with one of the managers and the service dept guy. The problem with my vehicle wasn’t covered by their warranty (naturally). They seemed shocked why I seemed so angry. While I would think that anyone would understand that a vehicle should at least make it home before defecting, I also realized that they probably didn’t know of my unreturned phone calls and phantom service appointments. I filled them in and they agreed that they would be angry too. They said they couldn’t grant me a free part on a holiday weekend when no one was around, but that they would connect with me on Tuesday, July 6th. Tuesday, July 6th I am dreading this day. I will be traveling to Chicago this week on business and already have enough problems. I suupose I should keep an open mind that they will come though ans solve my problem... Still? Would you really want to do business here? More
While deployed to Iraq in 2007 I asked my wife to take my 2002 Dodge Dakota in to have the transmission serviced (flushed, filter change etc). I did not specify where to take the truck, and assumed that she 2002 Dodge Dakota in to have the transmission serviced (flushed, filter change etc). I did not specify where to take the truck, and assumed that she would take it to a local shop where we'd had work done before. Unfortunately she took it to Speedway Dodge in Lansing Kansas. The work was completed, but the shop informed her that they'd had an issue with a couple of stripped out bolts on the transmission pan. They stated that they had repaired three bolts by drilling out and rethreading the stripped bolt holes in the transmission. Now move ahead about eight months. After returning from Iraq, and prior to towing another vehicle with my 2002 Dodge Dakota I dropped the tranny pan to install a temperature sensor in the transmission. When I went to reinstall the pan I found three stripped bolt holes in the transmission. While I could get the pan to sit up against the transmission, I couldn't come anywhere near torquing it to factory specifications. So I ended up drilling and tapping the holes myself, which wasn't a big deal until my wife mentioned that the dealership had had to do that two three of the bolt holes too... Despite that experience with the dealership I went back to them in February of 2008 after being involved in a serious traffic accident that resulted in the total loss of my 2002 Dakota (great trucks!). After the accident I had the opportunity to research everything out there and decided on the newest model of the Dakota. Speedway just happened to have the truck I was looking for (TRX PKG) on the lot. The only other one in Kansas was a couple of hours away, so despite my previous experience I went down there and ended up buying the truck from them. The sales experience was fine, although I did ask them to put the truck up on a lift so I could inspect its undercarriage, and was shocked at how messy and unkept the shop area was. At any rate three months later my wife took the truck in to have its first oil change (free with coupons as part of negotiated service agreement). Now I'm a semi-professional photographer, and I always kept my camera kit in the truck so I'd have my camera if something came up. Usually I take it out if the trucks going to be unattended, but I didn't get to it before my dropped the truck off. Well when we picked up the truck the camera kit was gone. A police report was filed and the dealership was contacted. There response was to the effect that the technician who completed my oil change was a long time employee and could not have possibly stolen the camera. According to my wife the technician was a kid who looked like he was still in high school. I guess that's the sort of individual who serves as a model employee at speedway dodge. So in conclusion, I suppose the sales experience there was fine, but under no circumstance should anyone utilize the Speedway Dodge maintenance section. More
