(Two things about this: I can't remember the last time, if ever, I have written a review, nor is it indicative of our experience with the service department, which has been fantastic.) We purchased our first MINI Cooper a couple of years ago from Rasmussen MINI and had a great experience. Therefore, when we had a child and needed to move up to the Countryman we sought them out. Unfortunately, it appears they were bought out by MINI of Portland. The biggest difference between the two purchases was how invested our salespeople were. In the first case, our salesman made a huge effort to find what we were looking for and made us feel the process and our desires were important to him. In the case of MINI of Portland, it didn't feel that way at all. Our initial conversations were good but soon went downhill. Originally, we were talking about purchasing a Certified Pre-Owned model they had on the lot. However, we were told they wouldn't negotiate on the price because, "(The dealership) doesn't care if they sell it. It's the only one on the lot and someone will come in five minutes from now and pay the asking price." It was a nice car with lots of features we didn't really need, so we performed a lot of research online regarding what we needed versus what we could afford. Once we settled on those details I met in person with the salesman to talk about placing the order. That went smoothly because we knew exactly what we wanted and all that needed to be done was fill in the same options we had on the MINI USA website. At that point I asked about the special financing offer mentioned on the MINI of Portland website. The salesman knew nothing about it and had to open the webpage to see what I was talking about. After skimming it, he said he didn't think the Countryman was eligible. I pointed out in the fine print that it was. At the beginning of the car-buying process, I mentioned to our salesman that my wife had just delivered our baby with some complications and she would be unable to drive for several weeks, so the time frame related to getting a special order was not a problem. To make things as easy as possible, we were planning on trading in our Cooper, however the salesperson suggested we should attempt to sell it ourselves on Craigslist. The difficulty with that was not knowing when the Countryman would arrive (since we are a one-car family). We were able to follow the build process on the MINI USA site, but once that was complete we were told our dealership would have access to our MINI's progress from there. We contacted our salesperson but he had no estimate on how long it generally took completed cars to arrive and kept pointing us toward MINI USA. He mentioned he wouldn't have any additional information until the car reached the port. Some research online indicated that buyers of MINIs from other dealerships were able to get the name of the transport vessel their cars were on so they could track them, among other details. MINI USA customer service told us that our dealer should definitely have access to more information than we were being given and apologized for the lack of help. We ended up making a guess based off information from other MINI owners we found online. Fortunately, we were able to sell our car to a local buyer with a lot of flexibility. We heard from our salesperson again only when the car arrived at the dealership. We made arrangements to pick up the car up the following day since we live almost 2 hours from the dealership. Because of all the work that had been done (we were pre-approved for a loan), we thought it would be a quick process. Taking possession of the car felt inefficient. Immediately before entering the dealership, my wife fed our baby so he would be as calm as possible. It took almost exactly 2 hours to drive off the lot after our arrival, for reasons that were unclear to us. It seemed that the process moved in slow motion and we were never sure if it was just because the sales team was unmotivated or if there were other reasons that weren't communicated to us. After two hours, our infant was extremely fussy because it was time to eat again. What should have been an exciting time ended up just being frustrating. At this point, MINI presents itself as a premium product. At this dealership, apparently all customers pay MSRP. What kept running through my mind during this process are the differences between our MINI experience and another premium product retailer, Apple. Apple expects you to pay their listed price regardless of where you purchase their products, but they treat you as if you are important and that there is added service value to owning their devices. Most Apple salespeople I have spoken with have been attentive, knowledgeable, and appeared happy to help. We didn't get that impression from the sales department of this dealership. If we were to purchase another MINI and if the option were available, we'd rather just order it online and have it delivered to our door with no sales/dealer interaction. More
Initial contact was Jarid Perry for routine oil change and filter service on a 06 hardtop we bought new from Rassmussen BMW. Jarid provided transportation to downtwon and arraged for us to be picked up at BMW of Portland later in the day. Jarid refered us to Peter when we inquired about a new MINI convertible. Peter was outstanding in providing information and allowing a couple of test drives. When we decided to buy a new conv, he tried unsuccessfully to obtain a car slated for another dealership. Failing that, he ordered us a new car which we took delivery of about 9 weeks after ordering. Everyone we have met and delt with has been preofessional and pleasant. More

I started my search for my 2012 Coupe on the internet..then decided it would be best to make an appointment with Bradley to test-drive...I couldn't have picked a busier day...(Demo day at Mini o internet..then decided it would be best to make an appointment with Bradley to test-drive...I couldn't have picked a busier day...(Demo day at Mini of Portland)...Bradley was with a customer, but acknowledged me and sent me down to register for a test drive and the rebate coupon. I took the test drive and was very happy. Bradley kept popping out from her desk to make sure I was comfortable and once free, we wrote up my order for my coupe. Her design choices were "ONE OF A KIND"....so I went home to count the days until delivery. Well, as it should happen, my original order was damaged at the origin, so luck have it, I got to order my new Coupe with every option I wanted. Sometimes, good things are worth waiting for. I got my build sheet from Bradley and followed my baby from birth to delivery at Mini of Portland. Bradley picked me up from the airport and off we went to see my new Coupe, tucked away in the showroom all bright and new! Bradley spent hours with me going over every inch of the car and how it worked...(I kept thinking, hurry up, I wanna go vroom-vroom)....She followed up that evening with how did I like my drive home? Another follow-up call in three days...and then another one just the other day. TALK ABOUT SALES AND SERVICE...GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!! In fact I was looking at their used Minis just for an excuse to deal with Bradley again! Thank you very much. I am very, very happy with my 2012 Mini Cooper Coupe. More

I bought my Mini from the downtown Portland dealership about a year ago thinking that the location would be ideal for service related work since I work close by. I was really disappointed to learn the dealership had moved. However, to my delight, the staff at Mini of Portland has been totally accommodating on the two occasions I've been there. The first was for a low mileage oil change. It was going to take awhile but Bryce was kind enough to shuttle my son and I to Washington Square mall so we could do some shopping while the service was performed. On the second occasion, I had an issue with the driver's side visor/mirror. Clayton told me to stop by on Saturday (which is another great aspect of the dealership), to have the part ordered. It's expected it in about a week and it's covered under the warranty. I've been really pleased with the professionalism, courtesy and extra mile service! Thanks guys! More

After 25 years and having owned 6 new cars all of which were serviced at the dealership where purchased, I have never been given such poor service. I called to get an appointment to have my car serviced and I was given a date a month out. When that date finally arrived they called to cancel it and I was told on the message that was left that they would call back to reschedule. I was never called. I left several messages to reschedule and after numerous tries was told I could bring my car in. I was leaving to go on vacation and they assured me my mini would be ready to pick up upon my return. I have been back from vacation over three weeks so that means they have had my car for a month and it is still not ready. When they had the car so long I asked for a loaner car and they said none were available so I have had to rent a car! In other service experiences there the work has been mediocre at best. I scheduled to have a short in the trunk light services over a year ago and they said they had fixed it. As I was driving the car home, the light went on again. I live far from there so I figured I would bring it in the next time it needed service. When I finally did, they said it was no longer under warranty. Ahhhhhhh. I love my mini, but unless I could find another authorized service provider, I would never buy another. Their service department, for me, has been a nightmare. I have never filled out a complaint about any product in my life! This is a first! More
