Hi. To whoever finds this review, I know it's long but there are things you really need to know about this dealership if you are considering buying a car To whoever finds this review, I know it's long but there are things you really need to know about this dealership if you are considering buying a car from them. The short version is that we ended up buying a car from them with significant safety concerns that weren't noticed by their techs and they really didn't do a lot to help us out, even though they said they would. If you are going to buy a car from this dealership you should absolutely: *Take a car person with you to help you look for hidden (or concealed) issues. *Do NOT buy from them until you get a second opinion from another mechanic. *If they say they car might not be there before you schedule the second opinion, don't back down. *Buy the warranty. My wife and I were in the middle of trying to move to Alaska by car. Due to the nature of our move, it needed to be able to handle the 2,000 mile drive through Canada on a rarely maintained highway pulling a 900 lb trailer. We also needed to find it soon since we had already moved out of our apartment. We told Mini all of this. We found a 2010 RAV4 at Mini of Portland that checked all the boxes. We drove up to Portland from Springfield to see the car. One thing I will say as a positive about Mini, they were very accommodating about our dog. The sales team brought her inside, watched her while she test drove the car, fed her cookies, and had lots of love to give her. There's their first star. The car looked great, but we wanted to take it to another mechanic for a 2nd opinion before signing any paperwork. We were told that we may lose the car because another couple was looking at it later. We got nervous and decided to go for it - our mistake. However, we told the sales rep that, because of where we were going, it was important that this car not have major issues. We were told by the rep that if we took it to a mechanic after buying and they found any issues, Mini would "work with us" on getting it fixed. The first thing we noticed after signing all the paperwork is that one of the wheel rims had a chunk missing out of it. The jagged edge was pushing into the tire. This little issue had not been pointed out or shown in the online pictures. On the way home from Portland, I noticed a weird noise coming from the back tires. My father in law noticed it immediately when I arrived back as well. We took it to a mechanic. Diagnosis: the wheel bearings were shot, enough to be a major safety concern. $1600. We called Mini. Instead of "working with us" to help us fix it as they'd implied, the cost of the repair was too much, and they said they were thinking about taking back the car. This was unacceptable at this point because we'd already confirmed all of our Alaska plans and canceling would cost us quite a bit in time, stress, and money too. In a last ditch effort we checked the warranty and - luckily - the warranty covered it. If we hadn't bought that warranty, we still would have had to repair something within a week of buying, something many auto-savvy individuals have told us Mini should have caught before they sold the car. Mini DID help us to find a partner mechanic willing to get us in down in Spring (there's their second star). However, we still had to pay for the first diagnostic and the $200 deductible out of pocket. But hat problem was solved and we were on our way to Alaska... or so we thought. Once we hit Portland, our trailer started swaying in the ruts on the road. Badly. It was not the trailer loaded poorly or overweight. Over the course of our trip, we rearranged the weight 4 times, weighed the trailer to make sure it wasn't too heavy (900 lbs), double checked our cars tow capacity. Finally, we chalked it up to the trailer being poor quality and the roads being a little rough. We drove 2800 miles with a rocking trailer, a couple swings away from trailer sway the entire time. Once we got up to Alaska and took off the trailer, the rocking continued. It wasn't the trailer - it was the car. We took it to another mechanic. It had a broken rear control arm. Now, we need to make this clear this was NOT a result of the trip to Alaska, it started in Seattle, 300 miles away from where we had purchased the car. Again, fortunately (warrant to the rescue) our warranty was supposed to cover it. We contacted Mini to ask for some particular warranty information that was not included in our packet. Tersely, the representative there sent us a copy of the front page of our service agreement, which we already have. We explained via email that that's not what we need, we're looking for specific information that Lithia asked for which we could not find in the warranty. Instead of sending additional information, the Mini representative again sends the front page of the warranty agreement - this time snipped out as an image. We responded a third time, saying that this was not what we needed. They never responded back. This was the final straw. We have been giving Mini chance after chance to get customer service right. To this point they have done the bare minimum, if that. The one exception to the rule was the sales manager - Aaron I believe his name was - who arranged for someone to get our car in Eugene to fix the wheel bearings when we needed to get out of town quickly. There's their second star. With the exception of this individual, the customer service has: 1) Made promises they did not fulfill on 2) Missed blatant repairs that should have been done before the car was ever sold 3) Been unwilling to go the extra mile with providing information, either to us or to the organizations that they work with to support their sales To close, I would say that we've owned this car for a little over 6 months. The experience has been mostly awful, though we will say now that we've fixed all of Mini's oversights the car is a reasonable drive. Go Toyota. If you are considering going with Mini, make sure to get the warranty, and be sure to have someone look at the vehicle before you drive it off the lot. Do your homework up front, because if your experience is similar to ours, they will do the bare minimum - if that - to support the vehicle or warranty after the sale is done. All that said, based on our experience, we would not recommend Mini of Portland to anyone. More
If I could give this a ZERO star I would. We came in and paid over $5000 to fix our car. 3200 of it was stuff they found upon inspection. My car once again started to smoke and smell like burning oil. I took it to my mechanic and he looked and called me with pictured and said that there was no way they had fixed what they said thwy fixed that I needed to call and ask for a refund because they were not honest with us. So I called them and they said bring in the car and we will have loaner. So we traveled over 2 hours to take the car and upon arrival from minute one we were disrespected, talked down to, Accused of lying and then told we had to pay for a diagnostic and put our card on file for the loaner. They were condescending and even pulled us into their office to explain why they(Rob the service manager and Andrew the consultant,)had a right to be in fight mode. I called my mechanic and he was trying to explain to them what he found and once again was rude to the mechanic to the point that my mechanic told them that they were unprofessional and needed to trest people with respect. Thwy said thwy wouldn't refund my money but then said they would give us a partial and literally only gave us 1/8 of the cost thwy changed to mess my car up worse than before. I DONOT recommend them at all and we will be contacting BBB to let them know of this absolutely atrocious behavior and treatment. All of that to say my car still isn't fixed and we had to drive 2 hours back home with an unfixed car. UGH. Do not take ypur car to them. Do not buy from them. They are not honest or respectful. More

Francis could use training on being empathetic and more polite to his customers. I’ve bought twice as expensive as what I was asking for finance for and was told I had to provide proof of income an 3 references. Never have I ever had to do this. The offer also didn’t take into consideration the amount I wanted to put down and had astronomically high interest rates for a market that wants to give people loans to stimulate it. When I mentioned this to Francis he said he wasn’t the bank and “just sold awesome Mini’s”. That’s all I heard. Nothing else. What an arse. More

I am a loyal MINI owner and was doing the research to trade in my Mini Cooper 4 door hardtop for a Countryman All4 PHEV. I planned to lease it--and wrote that in my very first message and he never told me that wasn't an option even when I was asking about mileage etc. I was having electrical work done at the house and he even went so far as to tell me what to have the electrician install ($1000+ expense) and then doesn't tell me until the day the electrician was at my house doing the work that I can't lease it. He was then rude and offered no solutions other than that I could buy with a balloon payment. Mini is supposed to be a no hassle dealership but this definitely feels like a typical car dealership move. I am so disappointed because Mini was so helpful to me years ago when I was rebuilding my credit and I always said I would stick w Mini because of it but this experience is really frustrating. I had met w my accountant and everything and was trying to cover all my bases to make the decision that was right for me and this feels like I was scammed. Now I don't want to give this dealership my business but my only other option is to buy in Seattle and drive it down. I was so excited about this car and had been saving and preparing for it for so long and David Schmidt decided his commission was more important than being transparent with a customer from the beginning. I understand mistakes but I mentioned the lease multiple times in the conversation and he didn't correct me. So I feel like it's kind of shady and that wasn't at all my experience with Mini in the past. More

We ordered this little convertible beauty in March and I was lucky enough to get her in June. Great communication along the way, fair trade in value, easy lease process and a lot of new Mini features to learn about. My only regret is my own bad choice of NOT getting navigation. Why did I NOT get navigation?! I’m so appreciative of David, the Sales manager and the rest of the Mini of Portland team … go there! Get your Mini. More
