Absolutely pathetic experience!!! I called in on Wednesday night if there was any Toyota highlander hybrid AWD available. I initially spoke on the phone with Louis and he told me there is a grey XLE Wednesday night if there was any Toyota highlander hybrid AWD available. I initially spoke on the phone with Louis and he told me there is a grey XLE trim level en route to the dealership. Sounds like what fits my criteria so lets set up an appointment since I am not available on the weekend. I was free Monday through Wednesday so I asked which day was Louis most available. Louis said Monday and Tuesday doesn't work due to the manager on those days don't like to pre sell vehicles before landing on the lot. A bit weird but sure, lets schedule for Wednesday. Apparently it was a dealership rule to not discuss pricing over the phone due to competition. Should have been a red flag but considering it was the trim level and color that I wanted, I went along with it. Louis gave further instructions to contact him on Tuesday to see if the vehicle is still available and also on Wednesday morning prior to coming in. Fast forward to Tuesday I checked in with Louis, the vehicle is still available. Great. Texted Louis Wednesday morning that I was on the way. So far I have done everything that Louis have asked of me. This is when the true nature of the dealership comes out. I walked into the dealership, a sales person greeted us and we told him we had an appointment with Louis. He brings us to Louis' desk just to find out he was working with someone else. What's the reason for setting an appointment if you weren't going to make time for the customer. Louis then tells us the Toyota Highlander was pre-sold Tuesday night and they have a pre-owned highlander hybrid on their lot. If this isn't the prime example of bait and switch and straight up lying then I don't know what is. Louis had multiple opportunity to text me at the very least to tell me the vehicle was sold but he elected not to. He then turn me over to the sales person who showed me to way to the desk to show the pre-owned highlander. We start walking out towards the vehicle, at no point was there any conversation or attempt to better the situation. We walk up to the pre-owned vehicle, it was a 2021 Highlander Hybrid AWD grey. Already hesitant about the bait and switch situation, I ask about the price right away. It was priced at $54,000. MRSP for this kind of SUV is $44,000. A pre-owned suv with miles is $10,000 over the price of a brand new one! Ridiculous! I told my sales person that I am more interested in a brand new and asked if there is any more highlanders coming in the new few weeks as we are not in a hurry. He proceeds to walk towards the dealership. As we get back inside, instead of looking at the incoming list or attempting to find someone who would know this information, this guy starts pointing towards a toyota corolla and start explaining the dealership's pricing. Apparently this dealership marks up each new vehicle $3500 for battery and refrigerant and another $8000 for dealer mark-up. WOW! $11,500 on top of MSRP for this tiny corolla. That nearly 50% more than MSRP. Now I know why they didn't want to talk about pricing over the phone, it's because they aren't only the most expensive pricing in town, it was more expensive than surrounding dealerships as well. From that point on I walked out. Too many red flags and no attempt at a friendly customer experience. I just wasted 2 hours from driving to Lodi from Sacramento, 15 minutes at the dealership and on the drive back. Absolute dismal experience. I wish the entire transaction just stopped right there but it doesn't. I get three additional calls from this dealership. First was a call to confirm my 10:30am appointment even though it was past 11am. Second I get a call from Moe or Max the manager who wanted to make a deal after I left the dealership for 45 minutes asking me to come back. I told him about my experience to find out that Louis was off on Tuesdays and my second sales person was named Frank. I told Moe that I was not interested in driving back and forth if there was no deal. He said he will look up incoming highlanders incoming and call me back. Lastly I get a call from a lady who just introduced herself from the dealership trying to remedy this situation. She asked if I had a trade-in which I then told her I had an appraisal already. She took more time to hear about my experience and tried put a deal together more than the other three guys combined. She said she will look into it further and call me back. In the end, everyone that told me that they will call me back, never did. Extremely sad experience. Highly suggest going somewhere else that respects your time and doesn't resort to shady tactics to make a deal. More
