I went to 2 of the Koons dealerships and was surprised at both by $1500 to $1800 markups on their cars over the prices advertised online. These processing fees were only disclosed at final signing. So this represented a 10% + increase over their advertised price. Their explanation is that Virginia law allows them to charge these fees and that this is a strict corporate policy and that it cant be reduced. Of course 30 minutes of dialog with their manager ensues as to why they dont advertise the real price if they add this profit to every car. He of course apologizes profusely and again blames corporate policy and offers to buy me floor mats (not oem but $15 cheap ones) and a tank of gas to offset the cost. Basically a $70 offset to their $1500 fees, oh and he will wash the car. I wondered how many people fall for this. This was a car for my daughter, and that addon to an inexpensive car is completely unreasonable. Even on a $50k car its inappropriate. Bad experience in unethical dealer behavior for my daughter. But they got what they wanted, I drove 45 miles from maryland to the other side of DC to look at their car. Then walk away due to deceptive trade practices. This is clearly s bate and CV switch scam widely used and now common in DC area dealers to lure consumers in a competitive market. While law sets no cap on dealer fees, that doesnt make the practice ethical. These fees are often only presented on signing. Recommend you ask them their add-on fees on your first call. This is a process only true xxxxxxxx would use. The covering up and rationalization of these fees on dealer web sites and the dealer associations makes it clear that the practices is widespread and systemic. I probably would have paid the price had it been above board. Instead went to carmax, got the same car without all the fees or manager trickery. I was ashamed for Koons and the VA dealer associations that find this behavior justifiable. It's our policy and cannot be changed, translates to it's our policy to be deceptive. Just because law does not prohibit it does not make it right or acceptable. It is deceptive, and because focus at time of sale is monthly payment, I'm sure many dont even notice. There are many dealers around who dont operate this way. Find one, or at least realize when you go into Koons that the price they advertise is not the price they intend to sell you the car for. More
Trying to reach the service department is an absolute nightmare. I called as soon as they opened, left a message, no return call all day. All I want to know is if my truck had a oil change before I bought it. Everyone keeps telling me "it definitely had an oil change". The oil is super black, the oil % meter says 16% left and the oil filter looks like it has been through xxxx. What kind of professional shop forgets to reset the oil meter? If you buy a car from here I would make them complete a new oil change. They straight up lied to me and will not even answer the phone to talk about it. Do not come here. I uploaded pictures of my oil filter and the % remaining from the Ford app. This is not a oil filer that has been replaced anytime soon. Koons Woodbridge Ford is completely shady, do not trust them. I've been a loyal customer for 16 I've never been to this dealership personally but my experience with the koons in culpeper is beyond disappointing. I've been a loyal customer for 16 months and have tried to get there help in getting into a less expensive car. Or to even fix something that happened to the car before I even started financing it. They wanted me to pay for there issue. And on top of that now I'm struggling to keep my payments current so I dont mess up my credit. And they have told me several times there is nothing they can do for me. What kind of dealership does that to a loyal customer,? More
