Not a Pleasant Experience at Key Chevy I found a truck I liked online and I called and spoke with Jay Tanner, the "internet manager". The website photos and email did not disclose dents an I found a truck I liked online and I called and spoke with Jay Tanner, the "internet manager". The website photos and email did not disclose dents and deep scratches in the paint. He took my info and emailed back to confirm that the vehicle was in stock and he had gone out to look it over. He said, "I went outside an physically touched the truck you inquired about, and absolutely beautiful truck!". I called to make arrangements to come in to take a look at it, again, no warning of the blemishes. I asked on the phone if I could give them my trade info so they could do some of the ground work before I got there. They said, 'no need to, we're in a buyback event so it will be quick'. When I got to the dealership, the first thing I noticed was the scratches and dents. I took it for a test drive with my wife and went back to the dealership. In the meantime, they had problems getting the payoff information from my bank and it was a 30-minute wait, even after we got back from the test drive. My sales rep, Jashua, even made us talk to someone from the bank on the phone while he went to ask his manager what to do. Finally, they said the lease would not have any trade value. Had they taken my information on the phone in the first place, we would have saved all that time, and frustration. Then, I showed the damage to John, the finance manager (to be honest, I'm not actually sure why he was looking it over with me instead of Jash). John said he'd see if there was any futures money (buffer money that's used to fix/prepare a vehicle to be sold) to fix this. He then noticed that the vehicle was not inspected. He said that they should have never let me drive this vehicle off the lot. Fast forward, they needed to replace the brake pads on the vehicle in order to pass it. The test drive route they recommended is down a poorly lit, steep hill and it was a rainy night in January. After we got back inside, we reviewed some numbers and I asked about extending the length of the term (number of months). Instead of recalculating the numbers, the finance manager said, "Okay, I will email you tomorrow". I looked around... there were no other customers in the showroom and none outside. I was perplexed why they sent us on our way and potentially lose a sale or prolong the process. He did say that "we will make your final lease payment for you" (remember that part). They told me that on Fridays, a dent guy comes and that they'd attempt to fix the dents and that they would touch up the scratches when it goes in for "recon". The next day, I agreed to have Jashua bring the truck to me so we could do the paperwork and turn my lease over to Key Chevrolet. Jash had been trying to send emails which were all sending much later than he said he sent them. One of which was that the truck only had one key. I asked for them to get another (there is a Toyota dealership adjacent to Key Chevy). They came back and said that they couldn't because there is no room in the price. Out of frustration and the amount of time and effort expended at this point, I proceeded to continue with this purchase. When we started going over the paperwork, I noticed that the sale price was higher than the original price that was on the website and the paperwork from the day before. Jash called the dealership to ask about it. I waited outside in the cold while he tried to reach someone. The phone was finally answered by someone who was outside on her cell phone. Somehow it got routed to her cell phone. Jash ended up reaching someone on Facebook and told that person have the manager call him immediately. The finance manager called and said that it's true, they were "making the final payment", but they were adding it to the cost into the vehicle. How misleading and dishonest... I argued to no avail. After the call, I expressed my frustrations to Jashua who was seemingly impartial until he said that "he is working for me". Didn't seem like it! I feel like Jash wanted to tell me that they screwed up and that this deal shouldn't go down but he bit his tongue because he drove over an hour to make this deal and it was Friday evening. I got an email a day or two after saying that they gave me the wrong copies of the paperwork and I need to send the copies back to them. The truck was not detailed very well. It looked as if a box of Cheez-Its exploded in the center console, there were stains all over the fabric, and trash in the cabin. I bit the bullet and got a spare key made out of my pocket. Of course, the next day, I got an email that they found the other key to my truck. After responding with some of my concerns, I got an insulting email from Jash saying that I was "expecting a brand new truck at a used price". My expectations are actually quite simple. Be honest and upfront with me. Don't put my wife and I in danger. If you're going to claim that "you work for me", then step in and make things right. Shame on me for not walking away at any of these points and shame on the dealership for allowing their employees to let a transaction go down this way. UPDATE: Chris Stromberg called when he saw my review and reached out to me. He offered to do what he could to rectify some of the issues. He offered to have the truck detailed, reimburse me for the expense of the key, and assured me that if we need further assistance, that he'll handle our needs. I appreciate where he's coming from, but I am still not happy with the way things went down. More
