Intermittent Charging Problem in my 2012 Kia Sedona My 2012 Kia Sedona had an intermittent charging problem The dash lights came on, the engine died, and I had it towed to a local shop nearby. The engi My 2012 Kia Sedona had an intermittent charging problem The dash lights came on, the engine died, and I had it towed to a local shop nearby. The engine started right up and they couldn't duplicate the problem. The same thing happened several days later; it started right up after it was towed to the shop. They were eventually able to duplicate the problem, took the alternator out but it tested good. The battery tested good as well. They believed the problem was in the ECM and advised me to take it to KIA. They believed the ECM was intermittent because the problem would disappear when they disconnected and reconnected the negative battery cable, thus resetting the ECM. Your Kia technician, Lonnie Bacon, spent three days trying to duplicate the problem and briefed me each night on his efforts. He checked the battery, alternator, and ECM, but he could find nothing wrong with any components or associated wiring. I drove the car home Thursday morning and seven miles down the road, the battery and brake lights came on while I was stopped at a red light. The engine still ran good and I made it home to my driveway. I turned the engine off, and reset the ECM by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cable. The engine started right up and with no dash lights illuminated. Since then, I’ve made short trips around the neighborhood with no problems noted. When the problem appears again-and it will-Kia will have another opportunity to determine the cause of the intermittent charging problem and fix it. This time I believe they will be successful. More
