Car was returned dirty, with pieces of scrap from repair on the seats and floorboards. Cob webs were left on the floor board as well. I immediately went to the car wash and spent 30 minutes vacuuming on the seats and floorboards. Cob webs were left on the floor board as well. I was mislead at my visit for regular maintenance. I set an appointment for oil change and tire rotation (if necessary) and to double check the lug nuts on a recently replaced tire. Tire replacement h I set an appointment for oil change and tire rotation (if necessary) and to double check the lug nuts on a recently replaced tire. Tire replacement happened at another retailer in Dec 2022 due to flat tire. I left my vehicle with Autum and clearly advised what I needed completed at the visit on Jan 3, 2023. First phone call from Autum on day of maintenance visit was asked to replace brake fluid, replace transmission fluid, engine filter, spark plugs due to mileage. No other reason for repairs advised during that phone call. No verbal price quotes were given. I asked to call back with answers after speaking to my spouse( the owner of the vehicle) I called back and advised only to replace engine air filter and nothing else. After speaking with a relative mechanic, I Called Autum again later and spoke with a different person and advised to only replace brake fluid, engine filter, but only change spark plugs if absolutely urgent . Again, no verbal price quotes given. No texts, emails, or calls received letting me know vehicle was ready, estimated costs, or actual damage to the vehicle. Called to ask if vehicle was ready several Hours after appointment time. Autumn advised that she told mechanic to go ahead and replace spark plugs since mechanic said they definitely needed replaced. At pick up, was asked to pay $683+ change for vehicle “repairs” and maintenance. I was expecting to pay $200-300 that day for the services I initially requested and okayed. Instead I paid double that and was misled to believe the car didn’t really need anything done but “could” be replaced due to mileage. At pick up, the emails supposedly sent were present in my spam inbox, but no texts were received that day to my cell phone. Cell number was confirmed with autum. I did not digitally approve any emailed information sent to me. The service attendants are trying to sell services and not genuinely concerned about customers needs and ability to pay for whatever services are advised or necessary. They won’t discuss pricing, they don’t offer pricing, and they never follow up on previously advised services from previous visits. My last visit for oil change at 70K, service attendant stated I needed a battery. I had zero issues with battery so advised not ti replace it at that time. Service visit at 80K and service attendants said nothing about the battery. No comments about battery. I still have no battery issues, starting issues, etc with the vehicle. This only further confirms my assumptions that Joe Machens VW is only concerned about racking up charges on service bill, rather than genuinely caring for the customers bringing in their VW vehicles. Unfortunately, each visit to Joe Machens Volkswagen is an attempt to get me to replace as much as possible in a perfectly working vehicle with no issues. I Will say Autum was friendly and chatty, which at the time, was appreciated. Had she chatted about pricing and been more clear about the not urgent service for my vehicle, perhaps the visit would have ended on a happier note. While I should have been quick to ask for price quotes before accepting any services, I do feel tricked into spending double the expected funds for my services that day. I simply was not in a financial position to spend almost $400 on non urgent services. As I feel the mechanic deserves to be paid, I paid my bill that day and let Autum know I would not be returning in the future. I later called the service manager, Tom (as it appears on receipt), to discuss my concerns. I was led to Amanda, the new manager. She listened to my concerns but offered no solutions and advised she would ask the IT team why their texts did not arrive to my phone. I did not ask for a refund or a discount, but rather wanted her to know about the lack of customer service and unexpected high bill I received. As expected, I received no further communication with her after our conversation. More
