FALSE ADVERTISING, DECEPTION, AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE: On 6/30/23 I contacted Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi in Gainesville, GA about purchasing a car and trading my 2022 VW ID.4 xxxxxxEV. The story bel SERVICE: On 6/30/23 I contacted Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi in Gainesville, GA about purchasing a car and trading my 2022 VW ID.4 xxxxxxEV. The story below explains how I was lied to, talked down to, mislead, and mistreated. My car is in pristine condition with 4,200 miles on the odometer (purchased new Dec. 2022). I was excited to trade for a Mitsubishi Outlander because on the website it says they give 125% of KBB trade value. My KBB trade value ranges from $38,829-43,848. Even if they only gave 100% of the lowest trade value ($38,829) I would be happy. I also signed up for their offer to receive up to $500 off any vehicle. The salesperson, Kat Montgomery, sent me the link to their online valuation and it came back with a value of $37,290. I would have made the trade for that amount even though that is only 96% of the lowest trade value range on KBB. (Not the 125% advertised). Kat told me that hopefully they could give me even more than their online valuation if they see the car in person. Since my car was in pristine show room condition, I assumed they would be able to give more. Gainesville is over an hour away from me. So, I also talked with sales manager, Bryan Lipke and Executive Manager, Michael Engle about the valuation and details about their car before driving up there. They were offering $3,400 off msrp on their car and 2.9% interest for 60 months for well qualified buyers, plus the extra $500 off from their online contact form. After several emails, they convinced me to drive the long distance to make the deal. I was made to believe that at the VERY LEAST, I would get the $37,290 that their valuation tool gave me online plus the extra financial perks listed above. I told them that my wish was to receive $39,000 for my trade. After arriving and being greeted by Kat & Bryan, the sales manager David Czentnar got the keys to start the in-person valuation. I went out with Kat to look at the Mitsubishi I wanted to buy and David was trying to get in the car with the second key fob. He said he’d never seen an EV before and asked how do I open the doors. It turns out that my key was overriding his. So, I showed him how to open and start the car and handed him my master key fob. He said more than once that they don’t know anything about EVs and didn’t even know if there were any chargers in the area. I thought that was odd since the dealership had two chargers mounted on the front of their building. LOL! After the valuation, David came over with a list of 5 cars to compare the valuation to. He was trying to mislead me into thinking the figures he showed me were what the trades were selling for (retail) when, in fact, these were prices that other dealers paid for the trade (wholesale). He said that we were $10,000 off from what I asked for my trade (a 35% loss in 7 months of ownership). So, that means he was offering $29,000 for my 7-month-old car that was $45,000 new! I was offended that they lied to me about my value, their advertised 125% above kbb trade value, lack of chargers, knowledge of EVs, similar car valuations etc. He even said that at their valuation price they would not make any money at all. I told him that was false advertising not to mention the many misleading emails that led up to my arrival that day all stating that I did not want to drive such a far distance for the valuation to not be honored. I then asked that they honor the quote from their online valuation link that I filled out. David point blank said they could not and that he couldn’t sell the car in their market. The truth of the matter is there were four cars within 50 mi that were exactly like mine, just with different mileage. The price of the car that had similar miles to mine was selling for $39,702. In the end, this is the typical old school dealership that lies, tries to manipulate customers, and has a sales manager David, who is the worst parts of what a car dealership can More
I would NOT recommend this group. This is what transpired for me. I did write to Jim Shorkey and a Manager about this event. Read it and make your own assumptions.... I went to Ji This is what transpired for me. I did write to Jim Shorkey and a Manager about this event. Read it and make your own assumptions.... I went to Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi Auto Group in North Huntingdon 1/12/23. I test drove a Mitsubishi Mirage Sedan in Red, loved it, was going to buy it on the spot. I never tried to haggle or negotiate about price, extras, or anything. Sat down with Reggie to work out the details of the purchase. Reggie was very nice, personable, etc. But it appears that the Manager of this Dealership who he went to talk to at least 3 times, shot down every potential way for me to get this vehicle – OTHER THEN FINANCING (according to Reggie). In my personal opinion, I felt they were doing everything they could to try to COERCE ME to finance… I calculated out if I financed what my interest would be after the 3-year financing and it was approximately $2,000. I thought NO – I have the $$$ - I’ll take it out my tax shelter. They made that impossible…. I told them it could take 7-14 days for the transfer of $$$ into my account but that I would give them a $1,000 nonrefundable deposit to hold the car until I could get the cash and then would bring a certified check. The salesman spoke to the Manager there about 3 times – who refused this – saying “they couldn’t hold the car that long.” I also mentioned to Reggie that I had $22,000 available on my credit card. I was told by Reggie himself that I would not be allowed to put that amount on my credit card. WHY NOT????? (I figured by the time the credit card bill came, I WOULD HAVE HAD the $$$ available from my Tax Shelter to pay it off on my card). Reggie’s feeble solution: just finance the car and then pay it off. Huh?? WHY do I want to go through the paperwork hassle of getting a loan only to pay it off the same month… I have a -12 distance prescription and do not see tiny print very well (I told Reggie this when I saw the form). I actually have to remove my glasses and hold the form up to my face (truly) to be able to read what it says. The loan form that was extremely tiny print and little blocks to fill in would have been a huge hassle, especially considering I would be listing 5 different incomes coming in: Social security, Hospital pension, Concierge at Senior Living Facility 12 hours/weekend, my own private piano lesson earnings, plus Piano Academy teaching income). Reggie said: Just list one income (lol) and calculate the rest in a lump sum. That was his solution?? Reggie DID offer for me to “use his computer” to fill out this form. But again WHY should I when I have the CASH in my Tax shelter plus $22,000+ available on ONE of my 4 credit cards. I did call my bank to see if there was a problem putting a “car purchase” on a credit card since the dealership appears to have a problem with CASH, and they said there are no restrictions on their end with my charging the car. All of these BLOCKS: Refusing my $1,000 nonrefundable deposit if I don’t have the CASH there within 14 days (might have even been 7 days depending on how fast the Tax Shelter Company moved on this). I was also willing to sign the final papers COMMITTING to buying this car… Plus Reggie saying I couldn’t put the approximately $21,000 amount on my credit card (which was NOT my first choice anyhow); I felt this was simply a PLOY to try to force me to apply for financing. Is the financing kickback the salesman/manager get worth losing a sale and projecting such awful customer relations. I walked out. They had a DEFINITE SALE!!! But obviously, in my opinion, were trying to FORCE ME to finance. Not only did they LOSE THE SALE, they lost a potential future sale from me since my other car (I always keep 2 cars) has 82,000 miles on it currently. I was SHOCKED at how they basically at this point left me with no other alternative but to FINANCE... Instead I walked out.. I am a 66 year old senior with breast cancer, and this is a HORRIBLE way to treat a senior WANTING to pay cash…. This whole scenario was very upsetting and stressful for me.. I am aware I am only ONE PERSON, so, of course, I am sure this will have no big impact on this huge conglomerate of auto stores and customers. I am NOT writing this to try to “obtain the car.” I don’t want the car now or any affiliation with the Jim Shorkey groups.. I just want to tell people how I, as a 66 year old, with breast cancer cancer was treated there. Reggie said it was the Manager shooting down my offers of payment. This is HORRIBLE CUSTOMER RELATIONS, and a bad reflection on the Company which I had always previously heard good things about. Addendum: I have gotten 2 e-mails from Manager, Kristie , who I did NOT write to anyhow initially giving me, what I personally view as excuses as to WHY they couldn't hold the car, even though I would have committed to the final sale on paper and given them $1,000 nonrefundable until my Tax Shelter $$$ was transferred... Interestingly enough, Not ONCE in those 2 e-mails did she address WHY I was NOT permitted (as told to me by Reggie) to put the approx $21,000 on my CREDIT CARD. The credit card company said it was fine on their end for me to do that.. Jim Shorkey would have their $$$ in full, there would have been no waiting, and I would have had my car... However, in her unsolicited e-mails she felt compelled to write to me, it makes one wonder WHY she did NOT address WHY I could not have charged the car in full onto my credit card. I basically wrote to Jim Shorkey and a Manager (did not write to Kristie) what I stated in my above E-mail. This did NOT necessitate ANY RESPONSE AT ALL. Of note, in one of Kristie's E-mails to me, she wrote to me; and this is verbatim "And yes, you are right. We do get paid a small amount from the bank when we obtain financing." (hmmmmm interesting...) I told her QUIT sending me e-mails and that I did NOT want to hear anything else she had to say. I wrote to her that if she continues to send what I perceive as unsolicited and harassing e-mails, I will simply start POSTING her verbatim e-mails . (Above was just a sentence cut and pasted from her e-mail to me). More
Needed another car fast and figured I would surf the net and came across one of the cars on my list I was looking for at Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi. I left a message online and within 10 minutes Ayla texted me and came across one of the cars on my list I was looking for at Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi. I left a message online and within 10 minutes Ayla texted me a message and it was smooth sailing from there. By the next day I had the car and even though I paid cash they have plenty of options for financing and even some options I never heard of. Comfortable test drive Ayla went over the details of the car to us with no pressure of buying or try to upsell us anything. That's why I highly recommend this dealership. Although the car was used it was spotless and mechanically sound. Handled like brand new. The clean perfect Carfax was a plus also. Now It's been about 5 months no problems with the car we all love it and everything is great on my end thank you very much Ayla n Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi I will be back in the future.. P.A 😄 More
