I purchased a 2024 Mustang EcoBoost from an out of state dealer. I did this because of the possibility of a strike, and I was concerned that prices would go up. I also purchased a Ford Protect Plan for the dealer. I did this because of the possibility of a strike, and I was concerned that prices would go up. I also purchased a Ford Protect Plan for the car. I had a check engine light for an "Active Grille Shutter" (I believe was the term) with approximately 700 miles on the car. I took it to Jim Hudson Ford, where I had purchased my last 3 Mustangs. I had never had an issue with them before. I still consider them the best in the area. When I took my car in, they could not diagnose it immediately, which was okay, since I was told my car was not in danger of being damaged. The weather was cooler, and I watched the temps closely. When I took the car in for the diagnosis, they informed me that they would have to keep it, diagnose it, and order parts if necessary. So I had to leave the car. I asked about a loaner, and was informed that they had none available. I was then directed to Enterprise Rental, where I rented a car. I ended up needing the car for a week. After the car was repaired, and I had returned the rental, I was informed that Ford would not reimburse me because I did not rent a Ford. That would have been a handy piece of information to have before I paid $400 out of pocket. In fairness, there was a comment made to the effect of finding out what I needed to do from Ford. But no mention of the fact that if you don't rent a Ford, Ford won't reimburse you. When I called Ford direct, they told me that the dealers were aware, and should have informed me. I am disappointed. Jim Hudson Ford did give me a partial credit for my next service, but that does not completely give me warm fuzzies. I consider this a one-off event, but I am still a bit miffed. May be that I just needed to say it. I am now just about due for maintenance for my car, but am considering other dealers for my service. I have waited a long time to write this, because of my respect for the folks at Jim Hudson Ford. I still wish them well, and am grateful for all they have done for me in the past. And yes, I can see people reading this and thinking to themselves, "Is he upset with them, or not?". May just be an FYI for those that need to know that they need to rent a Ford if they7 expect to be reimbursed. More
