Since 1952, J.H. Barkau & Sons has served the Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin stateline area for their automotive needs. We can proudly boast to over 70,000 customers in those years and have had thousands of customers purchase multiple vehicles and generations of families that have allowed us to serve them.
When John H. Barkau founded the business, his goal was to bring quality, affordable transportation to the local area. Jim (2nd generation), Rick (3rd generation), and Willie (3rd generation) Barkau have continued in that tradition while expanding our marketplace to be worldwide. We have had vehicles shipped to Russia, Sweden, Australia, Turkey, Mexico and many other locations. We have vehicles purchased by customers in 49 states and commonly have customers fly in to pick up their new vehicles. In all of this, it has been a pleasure for the Barkau family to help fulfill the transportation needs of a varied clientele.
J.H. Barkau & Sons has accomplished this feat by continuing to offer quality, hand-picked vehicles at very competitive prices. We believe in offering our customers an incredible selection that is second to none, with over 1100 vehicles available for purchase. We believe in a no pressure sales environment and in quality reconditioning of our inventory selection. Our sales teams at our Cedarville and Freeport stores each have over a century of experience in helping fill the needs of our vast customer base. The funny part is, we remember a lot of you years later and we are genuinely happy to see you.
But selling cars is not all that we do. We believe in supporting the local community through donations, Toy Drives, Food Drives and many other local charities and fundraisers. We also run the “Excellerate” program for Aquin Catholic Schools and have facilitated over 113 donated vehicles. A dealer that cares I recently purchased a 2005 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab from J.H. Barkau in Cedarville. I showed up without an appointment and their sales manager, Kevin I recently purchased a 2005 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab from J.H. Barkau in Cedarville. I showed up without an appointment and their sales manager, Kevin Martin, was more than happy to fit me in what seemed like a very busy day for the man. He let me test drive a few vehicles i was interested in. I made a decision, he ran the numbers and next thing I knew I had a truck. It was really painless and easy. Here's where it puts them above other car dealerships. The next day the front right brake caliper was sticking making the vehicle undriveable. I bought the vehicle without any warranty. I called them up to let them know what was going on. Kevin personally took me to the service department wrote the vehicle up, gave me a loner vehicle, and fixed my truck free of charge. There was no arguing or I'm sorry its your problem now. I will be purchasing all my future vehicles from Barkau & Sons without a doubt. Thanks Kevin! More

Awesome Experience I just purchased my 3rd minivan from J.H. Barkau and Sons. We found the vehicle online earlier in the week and showed up to look at it 10mins before t I just purchased my 3rd minivan from J.H. Barkau and Sons. We found the vehicle online earlier in the week and showed up to look at it 10mins before the company closed. Tim Border was the first to greet us when we entered the building and ended up staying 30 past close time. Very great guy. We made an appointment to come in today and test drive. I ended up leaving with the vehicle today and a wonderful experience. Tim is a great salesman to work with. Very understanding, willing to help, honest and not pushy at all. I will continue to shop at J. H. Barkau and I will ask for Tim to assist with any future purchases I make. More

When all was said and done we drove 2 different brands and looked over 15 different versions. Finally we decided on a 2012 Equinox, they washed it and filled it with gas. And our salesmen Tim Border took the time to program our phones to the car set up the XM radio and On Star. He spent at least an hour walking us through the options. The whole process was smooth and comfortable. I reallt recommend this Dealer ship and Tim. Job well done... More

Hassle free experience Tim was very helpful and went above and beyond to help me get the vehicle I wanted. I found the vehicle online and out of state.
