Purchased a new 2024 Toyota Highlander in April. Told the salesman I needed a trailer hitch installed, he said no problem and added the cost to the final total. At 1,390 miles the cross traffic al Told the salesman I needed a trailer hitch installed, he said no problem and added the cost to the final total. At 1,390 miles the cross traffic alert no longer functioned. I brought into the service dept. on Quintard Street. I told them of the following problems, #1 Cross traffic alert no longer functions, #2, Rear hatch foot activation no longer worked, #3, Have a strong smell of sulfur when I accelerate up hill. After the car was there for two days and not having received a call as to what was going on I called the service center, after 3 phone calls to them they finally returned my call and said car was ready to be picked up. When I arrived I was told that the cross traffic alert was due to a small dent above the gas tank and therefore not covered under warranty. I explained to them at that time the dent occurred three weeks prior to the cross traffic failure and that the system had worked fine until recently. They made no attempt to trouble shoot or diagnose the real problem, nor advise me how this problem could be repaired. Then they told me since the trailer hitch was an aftermarket hitch installed by a third party installer the foot hatch control was not covered. This was the first time I heard this was an after market and not original Toyota part. Then they told me to take it up with the salesman who sold me the car!!. And of course they found no sulfur smell as told to them. Tey would not even consider that the end of the exhaust pipe is 12" inside of the rear bumper. I made 2 phone calls to see what are they going to do to fix these problems, I sent two e-mails both with no response. I'm at home recovering from transplant surgery and have to wait until I go back down to the dealership and speak to the dealership manager. After which I will do whatever I need to do to get what I'm entitled to. The service department is totally incompetent to say the very least!! I have bought many new vehicles from Toyota, if this situation is not resolved I will no longer be a customer! More
Had a problem with TOYOTA HQ in regards to reimbursement for repairs that was done to my car prior to official recall. I felt like grinding a brick wall dealing with those people until I contacted Besa. Sho for repairs that was done to my car prior to official recall. I felt like grinding a brick wall dealing with those people until I contacted Besa. Shortly after, James got back to me offering assistance. Within a few weeks the issue was resolved and I got what they owed me. Cudos James and Besa! The best service reps I've ever dealt with, period! More
My day starts out when I enter the dealership and notice a employee yelling at a mechanic over something. This was my first red flag. It turns out this was the same person who had given me a problem. His na a employee yelling at a mechanic over something. This was my first red flag. It turns out this was the same person who had given me a problem. His name is Mr. Priamo Perez . He is the assistant service manager at Island Toyota . I arrived a little after 9 am for a scheduled oil change. As for the usual dealership thing, Mr. Perez suggests all sorts of other services which I don’t have the time for or money today. He then gives me a dirty look after declining. Yes they work on commission. I worked in dealerships before so I know how that goes. He then makes a rude comment to me all because I asked him if they had an oil change coupon being I usually get them in the mail. I didn’t have it with me at the time . I then defended myself by saying, “Why are you talking to me like that?” That annoyed him and he did not like. All this is going on while he is also talking to someone on the phone which is rude while helping customers. He snaps back at me calling me a tough guy because I am standing up for myself. He proceeds to tell the person on the phone who turns out to be his DADDY , “I have to call you back Dad, I have to go and kick someone’s xxx . All this is being heard by fellow employees and customers to their disbelief and I am sure was being recorded by the many video cameras that were there. I then walk outside for a sec to which Mr. Perez follows me. Still mouthing off to me saying now I am going to kick your xxx . This is when the fellow employees get involved to defuse the situation. I now instruct them to please get my truck and I want to leave. I square up the bill with them and notice that Mr. Perez put on some services which I did not approve of and have to pay for since the services were done. I now go home to call Toyota corporate to which they cant’ believe this happened and that I was treated as such by Mr. Perez. I explained there are many negative comments about this person and dealership on the internet. I also told them to please take a look at the video to see the situation that had happened. The rep said they will contact the Island Toyota dealership and have someone from there call me back to which they never did . Why would they? I am sure they all stick together and lie for each other at Island Toyota. The rep at corporate asked if there was anything she can do for me . I told her no thanks. I don’t want any refund or services and that I am never ever going back there and will tell everyone I know my story and not to deal with them either. I then told her the only thing I think should need to happen is that Mr. Perez needs to be terminated and shouldn’t be dealing with the public and bringing his negativity to the workplace which all the customers and employees in the dealership witnessed that day. Imagine one day he talks to your wife or daughter that way. One day he will mess with the wrong person and the situation won’t turn out in his favor. All of us on Staten Island may like the fact that we have dealerships right in our own backyard. But the truth is people are just rude here and don’t treat each other with respect in their daily lives. Ask anyone that lives here and I am sure they will agree. The gift of gab on the island is a big thing. Word of mouth is king. The internet also plays a big part in what we do and how we live our daily lives. There are many forums and websites that describe customer’s experiences with businesses here on Staten Island. Do yourself a favor and sacrifice convenience and do your car shopping and services somewhere else. Why deal with rude people who have no respect for themselves and others . They are many car dealerships just a few miles away in New Jersey. Sansone for one is really close and they have many dealerships of your choice. The best way to hurt businesses who do you wrong is in their wallet. Go someplace else. Share the post and make it go viral ! Stick it to Island Toyota ! Go to NJ ! More
