But a poor purchase decision on my part a couple years ago necessitated looking for something more reliable and cheaper to maintain than my aging 2008 Volkswagen Touareg. I'd been scouring the internet for a mid-sized SUV for a few weeks, but had been leaning towards an Acura MDX or Honda Pilot. But suddenly a silver 2016 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD showed up in my search at Honda of the Avenues, only about 10 minutes from my home. It was already 6:00p, I saw they were open until 9:00p, so I headed over to see if it was still available. I ended up sitting down with a friendly sales guy named TC (Thomas Phelps) and he explained the Highlander was still for sale, only because a previous buyer's financing didn't work out. I know pictures online are usually misleading, so was expecting that to be the case. But from the Carfax report, it was a one-owner and had been regularly maintained at the local Toyota dealership, so it sounded like a great vehicle on paper and was even better in person. I was blown away at how clean the vehicle was in person! It looked and drove like new, even smelled new - 39k miles! After some obligatory negotiating with the help of TC, we quickly reached a number I felt comfortable with. Although I might've been able to get a bit more money for my VW in a private sale versus trading it in, the hassle of meeting people for test drives, possible tire kickers and the potential of another costly repair rearing it's head before I could sell it... just made more sense to take the minor hit and forgo the hassle. Finally, I sat down with Sam Fakhoure, Director of Finance, who was both welcoming and personable. After getting the number as low as I knew it would go, Sam presented me with an extended warranty package that would essentially cover bumper to bumper, including oil changes at any dealership nationwide for less than $20/mo. Even though I know Toyotas are reliable, I decided it was worth the piece of mind and opted for MasterTech's Ultra package. Because it was already 10:00pm by the time I signed the paperwork and was handed the keys, Sam said he'd felt pretty sure we could get even lower than the payment I'd just signed up for, which I didn't expect. Sure enough, Sam called the next day and asked me to stop by and sign off on the lower rate he was able to get me at a different bank. To sum this up, I found the stress of worrying about an aging, unreliable and expensive VW and the hassle of selling it utterly disappear when I left the dealership that evening. The high-pressure sales tactics I'd come to expect when I walked on the lot never happened and in the end, I couldn't be happier with my 2016 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD and completely recommend the Honda of the Avenues! People like TC and Sam made my car buying experience what it should be: stress-free. More

Nail in a haystack Three months ago my wife took her 2016 Accord to another dealership for service because the tire pressure light came on. They said everything was fine and returned the car with 45 lbs of air in the tire. Last weekend the light came on again so I called Bob Mandele at Honda of the Avenues since I’ve dealt with him for 10 years. As usual he got me in the same day I called and the technician found a nail in the tire. This kind of excellence in service is why we will continue to drive 17 miles past the other dealership to go to HOA for service and future sales. More

Lifesaver service I recently bought a new CRV from Honda on the Avenues. I became friends with my salesman and he called me to check on how I was enjoying my new CRV. I recently bought a new CRV from Honda on the Avenues. I became friends with my salesman and he called me to check on how I was enjoying my new CRV. Long story short ...he was aware of a health condition I have... diabetes. When he heard my voice on the phone he realized I was in dire straights. Shortly after he called back and I didn't answer the phone he suspected the worst. From Duval county he called 911 to Volusia county and told them I was in trouble. When the paramedics came I was close to unconscious and unable to answer the door or cry out for help. He ordered them to break down my door. Diabetic keto acidosis had set in, the doctor's said I was minutes from either a coma or death. If it wasn’t for him - he saved my life. Thank you Nick Merizzi for not being just a car salesman. I was blessed to have met you. My family and I thank you. We are eternally indebted. God bless! More
