Over the past few years, I purchased 2 new cars at Honda Cars of McKinney, a 2007 Honda Accord Coupe and 2010 Honda Civic Coupe. During my research phase, I was very clear about what I was looking for in a car and had a price in mind. Because I'm an informed consumer and firmly believe in competition and getting multiple quotes from different dealerships, I like to know what the bottom line is up front. Honda Cars of McKinney asks me what my needs are and meets them 100% of the time in a professional manner. The entire staff is flexible, knows their job, and prides themselves in their dealership. I have not been disappointed in any phase of the sales process. Jimmy Rogers respected my every wish and was extremely patient and knowledgeable. Most of the experience of buying the car was fine. Had it not been for him, I would have not purchased the car there. He was never the “pushy” car salesman that you hear about all the time. He was great. My only real issue was the extended warranty. I realize that the warranty is profit for the dealership and commission for the staff involved, but I felt very pressured and was very frustrated with the whole thing. I bought the warranty at the time of the sale because I was told if I bought the warranty at a later date that it would not cover the navigation system on the car. I was also told I could take the car anywhere I wanted for service under the extended warranty as long as it was to an ASE certified mechanic. After getting home and reading the fine print, there is a clause in the contact stating if your car is within 40 miles of the dealership where you purchased the warranty, that you must take the car there. I live 35 miles from Honda of McKinney and would like the choice of where to take the car since it may not always be convenient to drive to McKinney. I called the corporate office of Hendrick Autoguard and specifically asked the same questions that I had asked the Finance Mgr. when I made the purchase and was told something totally different. Obviously some misrepresentation of the facts had occurred, so I decided to cancel the extended warranty. Two people tried to talk me into keeping the warranty after I had said I wanted to cancel and explained my reasons. I was also told that the answers I got from the corporate office were not correct. I explained that I had spoken not just to one person there, but to 3 people and they all said the same thing which was I could still buy the extended warranty that would cover the navigation if I purchased it within 12 months or 12,000 miles. It was also confirmed to me that I did have to take the car back to Honda of McKinney if the car was within 40 miles. After explaining all this to the Finance Mgr., it was then that I was told perhaps Hendrick had changed some of the warranty policy effective March 1 and that the dealership had not been notified. Sorry, but I felt like this was all BS. So, Mr. McDonald was going to call the corporate office himself and confirm what I had been told. I have never heard back from him. At the time of the sale, I was only offered the Hendrick extended warranty. I found out later about HondaCare which would have fit my particular situation better since I live 35 miles from the dealership, but was never offered that at the time of the sale. More
