This dealership lives up to the sleazy reputation associated with used car sales and Mr Birdsong is an owner and allows it to happen. Look at all the negative reviews and the consistent pattern. Hampstead Pre-Owned is not transparent nor honest. We went there because we did have a very good experience 5 years ago. My review is similar to October 26, 2025 review that is posted on here. So ple We went there because we did have a very good experience 5 years ago. My review is similar to October 26, 2025 review that is posted on here. So please read all of the negative reviews before wasting your time as we had some of the same experiences that I am now reading. The other reviewers seem to have similar issues and dishonesty as well from the certified check for our own financing to them trying to force people in various ways to run your credit to finance with them. For our situation, they knew we were bringing a check from our Bank as they even spoke to the Bank mid day because they had to correct their invoice for the car (originally written incorrect). Similar to what the reviewer stated on October 26, 2025 we were also told two different stories and negative feedback on our bank after driving an hour and then sitting there for nearly two hours. First, we were told that APLFCU stopped working with Hampstead Pre Owned. Then I was told that APLFCU was not good for the money and have bounced checks with them. We brought our own 3.9 financing and they continued to want us to finance through them or at least have a back up financing process. There words were "so that we have back up financing, if the certified cashiers check bounces." They were also not transparent in all of their fees the first time we looked at the car. Originally they say that the HPCO Certification is done for all of our customers when it is not you actually pay for it. We only returned from our original discussions on the vehicle because "they called us" and removed all of the unnecessary fees (10% for using your own financing and the HPCO certification charge, delivery fee since the car came from Westminster Toyota and not out of state). The locations where the car has been is located on CARFAX report if you are not aware. After wasting our time sitting there with our own financing, that they were well aware of, they unsuccessfully tried pushing us to allow them run the purchase through their financing to have back up because they believe the CERTIFIED CASHIERS check would bounce. As a family this is extremely insulting. Raquel tried to jump in the conversation and give the worst analogy of would I accept a person check from her. Of course, no. Then she continued to insult me and speak to me as if I was uneducated. All in front of the Customer Service Manager that I was speaking to outside. Raquel was extremely rude and then walked away while making nasty comments. The Customer Service Manager did nothing except ask me to leave the check and come back in a few days to pick up the car once they have officially cashed the check. There are too many dealerships around with lots of inventory to play games, insult and be disrespectful to customers. I did not read the reviews online as I previously 5 years ago had a good experience. The bad reviews on here are real so believe them. More

FROM 27K TO 39k? ? SCAM! I ARRIVED AT HAMPSTEAD PRE-OWNED WITH SOME EXCITEMENT AND MUCH PESSIMISM. MANY USED CAR BUYERS HAVE HORROR STORIES ABOUT THEIR NEGATIVE EXPERI ? SCAM! I ARRIVED AT HAMPSTEAD PRE-OWNED WITH SOME EXCITEMENT AND MUCH PESSIMISM. MANY USED CAR BUYERS HAVE HORROR STORIES ABOUT THEIR NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES. SO, WHEN I ARRIVED AT HAMPSTEAD, I HAD PESSIMISTIC CONCERNS AND REGRETTABLY, I WAS RIGHT! SWINDLED OUT OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. THE "BAIT & SWITCH" BEGAN AT WITH THE FINANCE DEPT REPRESENTATIVE, JASON, WHO IS THE STEREOTYPE OF AN UNTRUSTWORTHY INDIVIDUAL, WHOSE SOLE PURPOSE IS TO INCLUDE PHONY CHARGES INTO THE FINAL PRICE WITHOUT EXPLANATION FOR DEALERSHIP PROFIT. THE CAR FAX PRICE OF MY TRUCK WAS LISTED JUST UNDER 28K. BY THE TIME JASON WAS DONE, HIS FAST TALKING AND DISTRACTING MANNER, LED TO FINAL PRICE OF OVER 39K. )A 12K DIFFERENCE FROM THE ADVERTISED PRICE. $4700 OF THE 39K WAS ATTRIBUTED TO A PHANTOM CHARGE CALLED “QUANTUM BUNDLE”. NO EXPLANATION GIVEN. I DID NOT ASK FOR THIS ADDITIONAL “BUNDLE”. NO ONE AT THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED A REASON FOR THE CHARGE. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT IT WAS RELATED TO THE DEALER’S MAINTENANCE SERVICE PREP FEE OF THE TRUCK. HOWEVER, SALES REP NEMO STATED AFTERWARDS, “NO…THAT WAS THE ADDITIONAL 2K TO THE BASE PRICE OF $27, 785” (WHICH NEMO NEVER MENTIONED AT ANY TIME PRIOR TO THE FINAL SALE). AND IT WASN’T AN EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN FEE, AS THAT WAS PURCHASED SEPARATELY AND LISTED ON THE SALES RECEIPT. NONETHELESS, JASON’S SAW AN OPPORTUNITY TO BENEFIT HIMSELF AND THE DEALERSHIP AT THE EXPENSE OF A TRUSTING CUSTOMER, AND THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAVE TO ACCEPT MY PART FOR THIS OVERSIGHT AT FINAL SALE REVIEW, AS I WAS DENIED THE OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW A COPY OF THE PURCHASE DOCUMENT AT HOME PRIOR TO FINAL SALE. NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY. WHEN A MYSTERIOUS $4700 “QUANTUM BUNDLE” FEE ISSUE WAS BROUGHT UP TO SALESMAN NEMO CRUZ, HE COULD NOT PROVIDE A REASON FOR THIS MYSTERIOUS CHARGE BY FINANCE REP JASON. AND NEMO ONLY MENTIONED THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LISTED $27,785 AND THE $29,980 AT FINAL SALE, WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO HIS ATTENTION AFTER THE SALE. NEMO SAID WAS "THE DEALER PREP FEE", WHICH WAS NOT LISTED ANYWHERE IN WRITING FOR VERIFICATION AND TRANSPARENCY. SO, DAYS LATER, OVER THE PHONE, NEMO SAID HE WOULD GET BACK TO ME WITH AN EXPLANATION. HE NEVER DID. NO ONE FROM HAMPSTEAD CALLED TO EXPLAIN THE UNEXPECTED CHARGES TO THE VEHICLE PRICE. FOR A DEALERSHIP THAT PRIDES THEMSELVES ON "CUSTOMER SATISFACTORY SERVICE AWARDS" AND TRANSPARENCY, THIS IS CLEARLY LAUGHABLE. THIS PRACTICE IS A DELIBERATE ATTEMPT FOR ADDITIONAL PROFIT SUPPORTED AND BY THE HAMPSTEAD DEALERSHIP. JASON IS CLEARLY ENCOURAGED IN THIS BEHAVIOR, AS HE WOULD NOT OPERATE AGAINST DEALERSHIP PRACTICE, AS STATED TO ME. THE HAMPSTEAD GROUP HAS PERFECTED THE ART OF “SMILING FINANCIAL SWINDLERS ”, WHILE EARNING YOUR TRUST AND TAKING MY HARD EARNED MONEY WHEN MY GUARD IS DOWN. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS BEHAVIOR IS TYPICAL OF MANY USED CAR DEALERSHIPS. SO, IN CONCLUSION, BEWARE OF FRIENDLY CAR SALESMEN AND THEIR FINANCE REPRESENTATIVES. GET YOUR OWN FINANCING THROUGH YOUR CREDIT UNION, AS I SHOULD HAVE DONE. AND READ THE CUSTOMER REVIEWS AND FINAL SALE CONTRACT VERY CAREFULLY. FROM 27K TO 39K?? I WAS DEFINITELY MISLED. NOW, IS EVERY CUSTOMER GOING THROUGH THIS? PROBABLY NOT. WILL YOU BE TREATED POLITELY AND RESPECTFULLY? PERHAPS. BUT, CERTAINLY THERE’S ENOUGH NEGATIVE REVIEWS TO VALIDATE MANY OF THESE CLAIMS, AND ITS LIKELY YOU WILL BE A VICTIM OF DECEIT AND DISHONEST SALES. OVERALL, ITS A SHAMEFUL AND DISAPPOINTING PRACTICE, FROM SOMEONE WHO WAS ONCE AN OPTIMISTIC CUSTOMER. BUYERS BEWARE! More

I usually don't give out one stars unless something agregious has happened in which this case it has and then when I went back to as to speak to the owner there was hesitation with giving me that infor agregious has happened in which this case it has and then when I went back to as to speak to the owner there was hesitation with giving me that information and then a woman approached from the back and offered to hear me stating she was part owner. My son and I walked in with a check from navy federal and I was serviced by "MO" she presented a paper to my son and stated it was to verify his identity (we are US Citizens with drivers licenses) I stated to her "your not running his credit right" and son simultaneously echoed the same thing and she said "no, it's just to verify your identity" we said ok. We ended up purchasing a car only have letters of rejection show up in the mail. When I went to attempt to speak with the manager is when I sat down with Erika (stated she was the partial owner) and Bernard only to have my intelligence insulted with that's what they have to do because they were burned by Navy federal. I again tried to explain but you ran his credit without authorization and we were lied too about the form. So please beawar of what they present to you and make sure they don't run your credit without your knowledge we never stated we needed any financial assistance. Then to be insulted by Barnard telling me it was "just and inquire" if that is their practice please beware More

This dealership operates a classic bait-and-switch pricing model. Future buyers, please read this detailed warning before wasting your time or money. The advertised price is fundamentally misleading, pricing model. Future buyers, please read this detailed warning before wasting your time or money. The advertised price is fundamentally misleading, and they are actively deceptive when asked for a final cost. The Price Manipulation Scam - While standard industry fees (taxes, DMV, and the $799 dealer processing fee) are expected, this dealership immediately introduces non-negotiable and questionable mandatory add-ons, increasing the final price by thousands: 1. Mandatory Freight Fee: An extra $499 for "freight." 2. Mystery Fee (HPO): A staggering $1,295 required charge for "HPO" (which they cannot, or will not, clearly define). The Financing Trap Racket - The price will instantly climb if you attempt to pay cash or use pre-approved outside financing. They aggressively discourage external loans because their primary profit mechanism is the guaranteed margins from in-house financing. - If you finance through them, be prepared for mandatory, high-profit add-ons, including GAP insurance and proprietary warranties, which are automatically rolled into your loan amount. - If you decline these specific add-ons, they simply inflate the overall vehicle price to compensate for the lost commission. Customer Service Deception When I called to clarify the pricing structure, the representative initially confirmed only the standard processing fee and the freight charge. However, the moment I pressed for the definitive "out-the-door" price—the only figure that matters —they repeatedly refused to provide it. They cannot scam you if they provide a final price upfront. This refusal is the single biggest red flag. I canceled my appointment after seeing numerous consistent complaints regarding their deceptive practices—a decision I am immensely relieved I made. Your Two-Step Test for Honesty Do not rely solely on their Google reviews. Look for independent feedback on Yelp and DealerRater. If you still doubt this warning, call them and perform this two-part test. Their reaction will confirm everything in this review: 1. Ask for the Out-the-Door Price: Provide them with your exact state, zip code, and trade-in status so they can calculate precise taxes. Watch how quickly they dodge the question. They will not provide a final figure because doing so eliminates their ability to surprise you with fees later. 2. State You Have Pre-Approval/Outside Financing: Tell them you are ready to buy but have your own bank approval. They will immediately pivot, claiming they work with "many lenders" and can beat your rate. Their goal is to push you away from your pre-approval and into their profit-generating loans, guaranteeing they can sell you their high-margin GAP and warranty packages. Ask these two questions, compare their evasive answers to my experience, and decide whether this is a reputable place to spend your time. More
