Good car at good price but.... I contacted the dealership through CarGurus about a car on a Friday but hadn't received a response so I went down there about noon on Saturday to look I contacted the dealership through CarGurus about a car on a Friday but hadn't received a response so I went down there about noon on Saturday to look at the car. When I got there they mentioned that they had emailed me back - turns out they did about 45 minutes before I got there. My salesman was Evan. I asked if the car was still available, it was... so I asked to take it for a test drive. This was on the heels of that "Bomb Cyclone" storm so the car had a flat tire. Apparently there were no mechanics available to put air in the tire so he drove me to the gas station up the street to put air in the tire. I took over after that. This was probably the worst test drive I've ever had. He was SOOO nervous while I was driving. Keep in mind, there was a lot of snow on the sides of the roads... but only minor icing in patches... otherwise the roads were very driveable and it was a clear but cold day. He seemed legit panicked. The entire test drive he kept telling me to watch out for practically every other car that was on the road, reminding me of road conditions, and even went so far to say not to hit the car in front of me when I went to park. I don't know if it's just because I'm a woman or if he normally freaks out with every driver on a test drive (I'm assuming the former), but this has never happened to me before. I know it wasn't because I was going too fast because I only ever break speed limits on highways, not on surface streets. And especially not on a test drive. I've been driving for nearly 26 years. Which is likely longer than he's been alive. I think I got this dude. That put a bad taste in my mouth. During the test drive I noticed a button in the car that said "Active ECO". I've never had an ECO car before so I asked him what the button did. He went into a long story about how if I lived in the mid-west, that button meant I could switch between regular gas and corn gas? If that's a thing. So I asked if that meant the button was useless to me in the northeast. He said pretty much. But, all said and done... I liked the car and decided to take it. I put a deposit down to hold the car while I worked on finalizing my funding with my credit union. I put the deposit on my credit card and asked that that money be returned to me whether or not I bought the car. He agreed. Even though I had already secured a loan from my credit union, he said he'd get me numbers from 2 other banks to help me find the best deal. He never got back to me with those numbers. I just went with my loan. I emailed him Monday about noon to tell him I was all set with the loan and that the check would be there in the morning. He said he'd put the ticket in to service the car that day. They had the check in hand by Tuesday morning. He told me they still had to do a service on the car and fix any problems they may find and that I couldn't pick up until Wednesday or Thursday. This is unusual for me, every car I've ever bought, I drove off in it the day I came in... but, hey, a full service is good... don't want problems later so OK. Then later on Tuesday he told me that due to the storm, the garage was backed up and I couldn't get the car until Friday. This was a problem for me since I had plans to go out of town right after work on Friday and was really excited to do so in my "new" car. I told him this. He said he'd see what he could do and would get back to me on Wednesday by mid-day. By 3:00 on Wednesday, I had not heard from him so I emailed to follow up. He said he was busy all day but they were going to put it in the garage that night and that by Thursday mid-day he'd tell me if I could pick it up on Friday... which meant I had to now change my plans and leave later than expected for my trip out of town. Fine, OK but since I didn't want to wait the entire weekend for this car, I delayed my plans. He said if the car didn't need to have anything fixed, I should be able to pick up on Friday but if they needed to order parts or anything, it would be later than that... 2:00 on Thursday I was informed that I could pick up my car on Friday and that they said they had replaced 2 tires and brakes. I was very grateful that they didn't make me wait the entire weekend to get the car. When I got there there was a lot of paperwork to sign and transfer of plates, which it typical. He returned my deposit as promised and even reminded me to check that I took everything out of the car like my EZ Pass - which I totally did forget... The parking is abysmal there so I parked my trade-in on the street. He also informed me that I may receive denial letters for the loans I never heard back about and explained how I could use those denial letters to get free credit reports (little bit of mansplaining as far as I'm concerned, but OK)... I don't even know if I was denied or not... no one ever talked to me about them again. So that was kind of annoying. The car was nice and clean and smelled great. He had it warming up for me since it was cold out, which I thought was considerate. Evan put gas in the car and eventually I was on my way with my new ride. After I had picked up the car, I became curious what the "Active ECO" button really did because it seemed odd for it to be only useful to people in the middle of the country. Turns out: "Active Eco, engaged by a dashboard switch to the left of the steering wheel, modifies engine operation so you get more gradual acceleration, and the transmission tends to shift to higher gears sooner and isn’t as quick to downshift for passing. Active Eco also cuts off the fuel supply during deceleration, and Hyundai says all this electronic management can increase fuel economy as much as 7 percent." ...Yeah, corn. So overall... I'd give them a 3.5 out of 5 stars (this site won't let me do half stars) because the car was very clean, he was friendly throughout the paperwork process and the car was a very good deal. My complaints being the terrible test drive, the bank loan application mystery, the b.s. about the Active ECO button (could've just said you didn't know, buddy) and having to wait nearly a week to get the car from the date I walked onto the sales floor with my own financing. They have quite a large selection and the pricing is decent. We made a good deal and they arranged to have the car serviced and cleaned prior to pick up the following week. Unfortunately the key less entry fobs were missing when we picked up the car and since it was an hour drive from our home, I made arrangements at a local Subaru dealer to have keys programmed after which H&S reimbursed us for the cost. Just be sure to do a full inspection prior to driving off, just as you would from any dealer, and I'm confident they will take good care of you. More
