WARNING: Do not buy a used car from this location. The day after I purchased, I came to pickup the car. When I started it, the engine made a loud grinding/rattling sound upon starting it that it had not made during any of the test drives. It was really concerning because the car had not made this noise during any of the multiple times I test drove it. Over the course of the next few days I noticed a pattern that it would not make the sound if starting the engine after recent use but only on a cold start when the car had been sitting for about 8 hours or more. After some research I discovered that this was a faulty VTC actuator, a major component of the engine that would need to be replaced (around a $1300 repair). The reason I did not notice this problem any of the times I test drove the car is because they would start the car in a location away from me and then drive it up to the main building for me to test drive. Since the grinding/rattling sound only occurs on cold starts I never heard it during test drives. There is absolutely no way they did not hear the sound themselves and were not aware of the issue. It's a jarring and obviously bad sound. Honda put out a service bulletin in 2017 about this being a problem in both 2015 and 2016 Honda Fits so it's a well known issue. There are only two possible conclusions to draw from the facts: either Gwinnett Place Honda was fully aware of this major engine defect when they sold it to me without telling me, or their service department just doesn’t know what they’re doing and they didn’t think this grinding/rattling was an issue. They either intentionally sold me a car without disclosing major engine damage, or their service department is not skilled enough to catch a defect that even I as someone who knows nothing about cars caught immediately. They even told me the engine was in perfect condition when I interviewed them about the car, and they declared it Hendricks certified giving it a 3 month powertrain warranty. Thank god the warranty covered the engine but this is disgusting, completely unethical for them to have certified and sold me a car that needed a major component of the engine replaced even before they sold it. I requested that they extend the warranty to 1 full year since this VTC actuator problem is known to cause other very costly issues down the line. They refused to extend the warranty and told me that I could pay them an extra 2,000 dollars to extend it myself! More money than the repair itself cost. I’m furious. Honestly this is potentially fraudulent on their part given they certified a car with an engine defect needing a major repair with a 3 month power train warranty and told me the engine was in perfect condition... (Note: I've rated Tammy who I worked with most of the time with 5 stars because she was the one employee who was very nice and respectful to me the whole time and I don't think this is necessarily her fault. Honestly who knows at this point if she was personally aware of the issue, she is not the person who started the car and drove it up for me during test drives... but I think the decision to sell this car without disclosing a major defect was made higher up in management.) Sales Representative was Patrick Beasley. I first met Patrick in the middle of July as I had some extra time my hands and wanted to look at this particular minivan. He was very polite, retrieved the keys so that I could take a better look at the car. We even did a short test drive. Afterwards, we went to work out the numbers and unfortunately, we could make it work at the time. At no time was Patrick offended by my price. He was very polite and said we can't make those number. A few days later, he texted me with some new numbers, but again it was still out of reach to keep my monthly payment within my budget and term. But just as time heals all wounds, it also allows for market correction and three weeks later, we were very close. I came up a little, they came down a lot and I called him on Saturday to make an appointment on Monday. We had our numbers and were ready to make a deal. I showed up at our scheduled time, the car was out front, clean and ready for me to inspect again if needed. He showed me the pre-inspection and maintenance done on the car before putting it on their lot. As part of the purchase agreement I would be allowed to have my mechanic inspect the car. Any issues discovered during the inspection, the dealership said they would fix or I could return the car and cancel the deal. They put that in the contract. My mechanic spent an hour checking the car out and told me it was as close to a new car as you can get. Keep in mind, this is a 2019 Toyota Sienna (5 years old). I went back to the dealership to sign the title of my trade and I'm now the proud owner of a like new, used car. Already took the guys from the roundtable on a ride to inspect. Everyone was pleased and commented on how clean the minivan was. Throughout this process, Patrick was never pushy, always polite and returned calls or text right away. Would recommend the dealership and if you're looking for a new, used car, ask for Patrick. One other comment to add is about the dealerships collision repair service. I purchased several years back a 2014 Honda Accord for my daughter. The car has been rear ended twice. Once while it was legally parked at Publix. This dealership did the repairs and the car looks great. There is a rental car service in the lobby of the collision repair shop so getting a vehicle to use while your car is repaired was seamless. The repairs were perfect. Looked like a brand new car. So I recommend their collision repair shop as well. More
