Mixed Feelings I was looking for a low cost used mini-van. I was coming from another dealer when I was passing the Matteson Auto Mall on Lincoln Highway and saw some I was looking for a low cost used mini-van. I was coming from another dealer when I was passing the Matteson Auto Mall on Lincoln Highway and saw some vans in front of Hawkinson Nissan. I pulled in and saw a nice one that had a price on it of $8875.00. It was a little higher than I wanted, but I'd looked at other dealerships and had found some pretty bad vans in my price range! I wish I could remember my salesman's name because he was very nice and friendly! We took the van for a test ride and I really liked it! I had been planning on selling my current van at CarMax and using that money to purchase the new van. I had earlier stopped at Planet Toyota, just down the street from Hawkinson Nissan, but I didn't care for the van they had for sale. They did, however, offer to buy my current van from me. I told the salesman I was interested, but wanted to go to CarMax to see what they would give me for my van. Hawkinson offered to appraise my van and they came back with the same offer as Toyota. That was good, because that is what I was hoping to get for the van. I still was uncomfortable with the 8875.00. Wasn't out of my league, but I hemmed a little. They asked if they got me another $1000.00 for my van would that help. I said YES! They came back with an additional $650.00, which I ultimately agreed to. The dealership was very clean and the atmosphere was inviting. ALL staff that I had contact with was very friendly. There were a couple of small problems with the van I noticed on the test drive, and service took care of them IMMEDIATELY! As of this point, everything was fantastic! Due to the fact that I wasn't prepared to purchase the car at this time, I didn't have the title to my current van and needed to go home to get it. When I returned later there was another problem with the seat of the van and service would have to fix it the next day. It was no problem and I made arrangements to come in the next day to get it. Still, everything was wonderful. When I went home I wanted to see how good of a deal I actually made. I wanted to go to the Kelley Blue Book website and put all the information about the new van and see what they said was a fair price. I first went to Hawkinson's website to see if the new van information was still available so I'd be sure not to miss any options and that I'd imput the proper model of the new van. Well, the new van was still on their website but was priced at $7600.00; not the $8875.00 that was on the van. Had I not agreed to purchase the van when I did and came home first to research it, I would've got the $7600.00 price. The trade in had nothing to do with it because I could've sold it to Toyota, or to CarMax. When I thought about how they couldn't get the additional $1000.00 on the trade, but only $650.00, I began a slow boil. Even if they had given me the additional $1000.00 they would have been ahead $250.00 than if I had seen the website before coming in! I went through with the deal because I had agreed to it. I don't regret purchasing the van; it is a great vehicle! I even like the facility and the people. But the practice of running 2 different advertised prices on the same van at the same time is unethical, in my opinion. While every other aspect of the car buying experience was great, I'll never purchase anything, including service, from them again. I hope the extra $625.00 was worth it to them. I just bought my wife a $36,000.00 Escape after we looked at a Kia at Hawkinson. While she really liked it, neither of us could bring ourselves to negotiate with them because we could never trust their deal. We didn't want to feel "taken" again! I eventually did look up the fair purchase price on KBB. I did get a fair deal, despite their practices. But I do know I could have done better. It is such a shame because other than the 2 advertised prices, Hawkinson Nissan had a customer for life! My best warning to anyone considering this dealership is do your research before finalizing ANY deal here! Simply check their website and you'll be better off! I'd be willing to bet they would be a great dealership to deal with if you could feel confident in what you paid for the car! To Hawkinson, all I can say is you should have said "Mr. Fitz, today is your lucky day! We just priced the van $1275.00 less and you can buy it for $7600.00!" Those simple words would've done wonders for a long term relationship! More

My husband and I purchased a 2010 Nissan Altima 2.5S from Hawkinson Nissan last month. I'd like to start by saying "Thank You" to our salesman, Jonathan Mack. He was great. My husband and I had just left a different dealership in Lansing, IL (Napleton River Oaks Honda) before stopping by Hawkinson. And we were extremely disappointed in the service we had received from the previous dealership. We were under the impression that there were no good dealerships left, but we were wrong. When we arrived at Hawkinson Nissa, we were greeted by our salesman Jon at the front door. Although the vehicle we originally stopped by to look at was no longer available, Jon found us a vehicle that was very close to the originale one. I have to say, I was a bit reluctant because I thought they were trying to pull a bait & switch move, but when Jon came back with other options, they were within the same price range and model. So, my husband and I were at ease thereafter. Jon sat us down, after the test drive, and provided us with lots of documents about the vehicle and the work they have done on our vehicle. We weren't charged any additional fees except tax, doc fees (which shouldn't exceed $164 in IL), and the title/ registration fees, which the previous dealership tried charging us $700 in some BS additional fees besides the 3 listed previously. All in all, my husband and I were very pleased with out experience. Our salesman, Jon Mack, was honest and sincere. He didn't try to up sell us or push a bunch of additions/ upgrades on us. We've had our vehicle for a month now and love it! My husband and I would return to Hawkinson Nissan in the future, but mainly because of the honest service provided by Jon Mack. Only downside is that they display the vehicles as certified pre-owned, but they ask that you pay for the certification (which is an additional $300). The Good - the salesman helped us find a used car in our price range. That took about an hour including test drives. Next day the stereo quit working and I did not receive a response when I inquired if it would be covered under the warranty (another dealership is handling the repair). In summary they claim to be different from other dealerships but they are not - you leave with the feeling you were given a bad deal and once you leave with your new purchase you are on your own. I HATED THE OVERALL SERVICE I RECEIVED FROM THE SALES STAFF AND THE MANAGERS AT HAWINKINSON NISSAN AND HAWKINSON KIA OVER THE COURSE OF THREE DAYS. I PAYED CASH FOR A 2009 NISSAN SENTRA THAT I NEEDED TO STAFF AND THE MANAGERS AT HAWINKINSON NISSAN AND HAWKINSON KIA OVER THE COURSE OF THREE DAYS. I PAYED CASH FOR A 2009 NISSAN SENTRA THAT I NEEDED TO DRIVE TO WORK. THEY TOOK ME ON A SHORT ONE EXIT TEST DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS VERY ADDIMENT ABOUT THE CAR NEEDING TO BE VERY FUEL EFFICIENT AND DRIVE WELL. AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I DROVE IT TO WORK THE NEXT DAY ALL HIGHWAY. IT WAS NOT FUEL EFFICIENT, DID NOT HANDLE WELL, HAD SEVERAL BLIND SPOTS AND NO WAY TO ELEVATE THE SEAT TO SEE OVER THE FRONT END. I HAD TO PURCHASE A SEAT CUSHION AND I AM NOT SHORT. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY AND MY CHECK HAD NOT EVEN CLEARED YET. I WANTED TO BUY A BETTER CAR FROM THEM. THEY REFUSED AND IGNORED ME AND ADANDONED ME AFTER KISSING MY BUTT AND SHAKING MY HAND THE DAY BEFORE. I KNEW THEIR HANDS SHAKES WERE FAKE! THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WAS WORTH $5000.00 LESS AFTER ONE DAY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $5000.00 PLUS ANOTHER $1500.00 IN TAXES AND FEES AGAIN. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE ME ARRESTED FOR A FELONY IF I STOPPED PAYMENT ON THE CHECK. THEY GAVE ME A TUBE OF PAINT AND TOLD ME TO FIX THE SCRATCHES ON THE CAR MYSELF AND THEY HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE BUMPER THAT WAS NOT LEVEL WITH THE REST OF THE CAR. THE MAINTENACE RECORDS ON THE CAR LOOKED GOOD ON CARFAX BUT THE CARS HANDELING DID NOT RELECT THAT. IT ALSO COST AND USED THE SAME AMOUNT OF GAS THAT MY OLD CAR USED TO DRIVE TO WORK. THE CAR IS NOT FUEL EFFICIENT LIKE THEY SAID OR THE MANUFACTOR'S LABEL SAID. THEY BLEW ME OFF ONCE I SIGNED THE BOTTOM LINE AND TRYED TO RIP ME OFF FOR ANOTHER $6000.00 TO GET A CAR ONE YEAR NEWER. I SAVED MY MONEY UP FOR YEARS TO PAY CASH FOR A NEW CAR AND WAS RIPPED OFF BY HAWKINSON NISSAN AND HAWKINSON KIA. THEY ARE VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! THERE WERE TWO SALES PEOPLE FIGHTING OVER MY COMMISSION BECAUSE THEY BOTH TOOK ME ON TEST DRIVES AND MADE THEIR ARGUMENT VERY OBVIOUS TO ME WHILE PLACING ME IN THE MIDDLE OF IT. BE SLOW TO SIGN THE BOTTOM LINE AT THIS DEALERSHIP. DON'T LET THEM PRESSURE YOU TO BUY THE CAR THE SAME DAY THE WAY THEY DID ME. I WISH I HAD FOLLOWED MY FIRST INSTINCT AND THOUGHT ABOUT THE SELL OVERNIGHT. EVERY TIME I GOT UP TO LEAVE THEY WOULD SAY WHAT CAN WE DO TO STOP YOU FROM WALKING OUT THE DOOR WITHOUT THIS CAR. I DON'T BELIEVE THESE OTHER REVIEWS ARE TOTALLY LEGITIMANT BECAUSE THEY ASKED ME TO WRITE ONE WHILE I WAS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE SALES PERSON STANDIND RIGHT OVER ME. THEY TYPE THE FIVE STARS IN THERE FOR THE CUSTOMERS BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY ATTEMPTED TO DO TO ME AND I HAVE A WITNESS THAT SAW THEM DO IT. BASED ON THE WAY I WAS TREATED OVER THE COURSE OF THREE DAYS HAWKINSON NISSAN AND HAWKINSON KIA SUCKS! I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN AND I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ANY OF MY MANY FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS TO THEM! I GOT RIPPED OFF BIG TIME! THEY ARE VISCIOUS AND RUTHLESS! THEY WILL TELL YOU ANYTHING TO MAKE A SALE AND TREAT YOU LIKE SOME BAD SMELLING GARBAGE ONCE YOU SIGN THE BOTTOM LINE!
