I purchased a vehicle in cash from Ford of Lake Geneva on March 26, 2025. Living in IL, they said I had to wait 30 days before I would see my title since it had to go from WI to IL, then to me. On Janua March 26, 2025. Living in IL, they said I had to wait 30 days before I would see my title since it had to go from WI to IL, then to me. On January 27, 2026, the IL Dept of Revenue sent me a late notice saying that they received my sales tax money late and there was a late fee. I called the IL Dept of Revenue and they said Ford of Lake Geneva was supposed to have the money in IL hands by April, 25, 2025 and they kept reaching out to them until June 5, 2025 when they finally received my taxes that I paid Ford of Lake Geneva back in March. At that point, a late charge incurred a penalty. The state of IL then followed up with Ford of Lake Geneva for the money only to be ghosted. IL Dept of Revenue reached out to me saying that I owed the money since the dealer has failed to pay them. I called the dealer and spoke to Cherie Shanahan - the Partner/COO/Controller of Ford of Lake Geneva. She said that if I paid the state the money, she would send me a reimbursement check right away via a phone call. I then followed it up with an email. This is her response:

 From: Ford LG Tue, Feb 3 Hi Thank you for your email. Please send the payment in and I will work on a check for you this week. The address on the letter is your current address correct? Cherie -- Thank you Ford Of Lake Geneva 262-248-6100 I followed up and was ghosted so I figured I better look into this company since I’m now out extra money for their issue. Looking at their BBB.org listing, someone had the exact same issue when they paid cash for a vehicle (not financed). Their title was sent very late to the state. This led me to look at the WI Circuit Court Access website in Walworth county for the business of Ford of Lake Geneva and all the management team (seen on their website). I’m in a very long list of people that they have had money issues with so I knew I had to move to making my request more official if I ever plan to be whole again. I got a follow up email after I opened the BBB.org complaint
 From: Ford LG Mon, Feb 9 Thank you for your email. A check has been issued to the address you enclosed in the previous email. I'm sorry for my delayed response, I was out last week with an illness. Look for the check in the mail sometime this week. Have a great day!! Cherie Still no check has been delivered from Ford of Lake Geneva and the state of Illinois has already cashed my check. More
