They have always done an exceptional job with the whole ownership experience, from buying, servicing and selling the cars. This latest service was a scheduled one, where they turned the car around quickly, clean, and caught some things I was not aware of, but were warranty items....very nice experience. More

Leaking Certified Pre-Owned SUV I was very excited to buy a new car, as I had bought my Rav 4 Limited new from Northbrook Toyota in 2007 and owned it for just over 11 years. It was I was very excited to buy a new car, as I had bought my Rav 4 Limited new from Northbrook Toyota in 2007 and owned it for just over 11 years. It was fine car, but it was time to get a new one and after driving an XC60 years ago as a loaner, I knew that was the car I wanted. Did my homework, got what I felt was a good deal on a 2015 certified pre-owned XC60 from Fields. Had a GREAT experience with my salesperson James. If you go to this dealership, ask for James and you will be treated fairly by an honest and nice person. They did not want my trade in so I sold it and came in to buy the XC60 on a Wednesday. I was at the grocery store that Saturday on a rainy day and when i loaded my groceries into the back, I noticed the rear storage area was very wet and the it was dripping from the ceiling. I called the dealership and they directed me to James who said rush in before 4 and he was arranging a loaner for me and would tell the service people. He was really outstanding and went above and beyond. When I got to the dealership James met me in service, helped the service people scan in my info and arrange for my loaner, and stood next to me through the whole process of turning in my car for testing and repair. He apologized, but it was not his fault, as this car was signed off on as Certified Pre-owned by Volvo, as well as checked and signed off on by the techs at Fields Volvo. I event forgot my garage door opener in the car and texted James, who drove it to my house after he got off work. I cannot say enough nice things about James. I was told by service that they would need the car for at least 3-4 days to water test and determine repair and would contact me. It seemed reasonable and they gave me a loaner, but I still called Tuesday after not hearing any updates. They texted me back later that day with an update that they found the leak source (leaking around the cars antenna) and would need a replacement part that needed to be painted, so the repair could go into the next Monday. It seemed like a long time at that point but I wanted it done right so I was patient. On Saturday they texted to say the part was painted the wrong color and needed to be sent back so it was more likely Tuesday. This seemed foolish since the car is black, but again I wanted it done right so I tried to keep my cool. On Monday I was told the part was not yet in but was coming, so either Tuesday or Wednesday. At this point I texted back this was getting crazy and I was frustrated and wanted the car I had bought from them 2 weeks earlier and driven for 3 days. She apologized by text and said someone would contact me. I also called the sales managed Christi's voicemail and left a frustrated message requesting a call back. To this day, i have never heard from or met Christi, so clearly she felt it was ok to completely ignore me and the leaky car they had sold me. That night, i got a call from Mike Hatch, the Certified Pre-owned Manager. This was the first time management was involved in any way, to my knowledge, and it was nearly 2 weeks after I bought the car and 9 days into my problem. I asked if he knew about my situation and he said he did not know, but had been asked to call me. When i told him, he thought maybe he remembered hearing about a car that leaked. he said they do not water test CPO cars but maybe they should. I think I kept my cool with him on this call ( i have not kept my cool with him on subsequent calls) and he said he would check into everything and update me the next day. He called the next day to say it would be Wednesday and he did not know what time. I got very frustrated with him over this entire situation, but agreed to come in Wednesday to reclaim my car. I even called Pat the GM after my call with Mike to tell her what was going on in her dealership. She had never heard my name before this and may have heard of my situation but didn't really remember. She was relatively polite and stated that she could not get involved in everything since she had 50 employees, but would get involved if she needed to. I do not know how many leaking cars they sell for this issue not to be known or discussed by management, but I guess this issue was not as shocking to them as it was to me. Meeting Mike on Wednesday was fine. We had a reasonable conversation. however, i noticed that in repairing my antenna ( for nearly 2 weeks) they had made some scratches to the interior rear storage area roof. i showed him these issues and he said they could repair them. Since it was minor in my view, I asked if we could take care of it at my next oil change and he said no problem as long as I called him in advance. Seemed reasonable. HOWEVER, when i got home I saw what appeared to be a 3 inch long scratch (it looked like the car had been keyed!) on the back under the XC60 logo that was not there when I bought it and I certainly did not cause it in the 3 days I drove the car. I was beyond furious. My wife is an attorney so she called at this point and let Mike know how upset we were. He agreed to fix it (although he has still never really said he was sorry for all of our issues) and an appointment was set for the following Tuesday morning for me to bring it back so they could fix both sets of scratches that their techs caused in repairing the leak. We were told a day or 2. When I arrived for my appointment on Tuesday morning, I was in the system but there were no notes about what work they were doing to my car and apparently Gavin at the service counter said that when they sold me the car, they detail cleaned it and gave it an oil change. That is a nice service for the day of my pickup, however to do that they created a service ticket (before I officially owned the car) and NEVER CLOSED THE TICKET. They had to find a way to close it so they could do the additional work and it took me 45 minutes to drop off my car. Also, no one told Gavin I needed a loaner. That took only an extra 5 minutes and they had me in a 2019 XC90 for the day or so. This time they were accurate and I got my car back Wednesday night. When we called Wednesday to find out when to get it, we were told Mike and Gavin arrived late that day (noon and 1pm), and that we would have to wait for them because NO ONE ELSE KNEW ABOUT MY CAR. Finally, my wife spoke to Mike and we were told it would be ready that night. I was not charged for any of this work (of course) but I did put a few gallons of gas into each the loaners that they gave me. My takeaways from this experience: JAMES IN SALES IS EXCELLENT! The management of this dealership does not care. They did not thank me for buying a car from them, did not offer any incentive for working with them again, and did not make me feel like I had made a good purchase decision by buying from them. Service dept staff was friendly and nice. Alex the product specialist is excellent as well. He helped me set up remote start and showed me a few new features from my car. Very patient and thorough. THIS DEALERSHIP DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WELL INTERNALLY AND DOES NOT SEEM TO CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE. The techs do not seem careful and caused new issues while repairing the leak issue. Also, someone was a little incompetent for either ordering the wrong color antenna or painting it the wrong color. When i drive my car, I LOVE MY CAR. I just hope I can drive it a lot and not have to keep taking it in for repairs to Fields Volvo in Northfield..... More
