The positives: Tobey Bates was a clear, positive exception to prior experiences with auto sales staff. Our questions were answered comprehensively, and it was clear he knew his product. At no time was there attempted pressure to buy "right now." We first met in August, had short conversations roughly once per month and when we came to the dealership on 12/14 for a test drive, there was a CTS that was almost an exact match to our requirements. Tobey had a prior commitment and handed us off the John Wacker, his boss. The transition was smooth and the style was similar. The general parameters of the deal were closed within 30 minutes or less. More positives: The CTS was ready when promised, was sparkling clean and full of fuel. Also, the accommodation of our need to have a week or two to free up funds for the purchase was readily accomodated. "Do Betters:" (items which would have eliminated some of the pain of new car buying) It took a long time. We had essentially closed the deal before noon on Tuesday yet we did not leave the dealership for another three hours. The "finance" time was way too long. The reason for the "4" on price above was that there was a Zero Percent financing option but no price consideration/concession for cash. That just doesn't feel right. Money isn't free. More
