We saw a truck online we were interested in and made an inquiry. This was answered immediately by BJ. After speaking to him and having our initial questions answered, we decided to make the four hour drive inquiry. This was answered immediately by BJ. After speaking to him and having our initial questions answered, we decided to make the four hour drive to potentially purchase this truck. We had asked for a Carfax report and received one and was told this truck had originally been purchased there by a "close friend of the family" and all maintenance was also performed there. One owner truck, all maintenance records available, history of truck, this all sounded very good. We arrived at Delong and met with BJ and test drove the truck. Seems like a very nice vehicle, however, the Carfax report would just state "maintenance performed" at intervals. I asked for the detailed service records to make sure the required oil changes, 60K mile service, etc had all been performed and what came out was a few warranty items only. BJ stated this "friend of the family" was a farmer who had his own garage and did all his own maintenance and was sure it had been done since he was a meticulous man. That's great, but I would like a little more than that actually. BJ said it was bowling night so he would ask him that night. We purchased the truck with no room for price negotiation since someone else had called while we were on our way there...and when I asked how long the truck had been on their lot I was told under 30 days when the website had said 39 days. Hmmm. Regardless, for whatever reason, we had a check to pay cash and had a four hour drive back but still had to wait over an hour for some reason. Then finally spoke to finance manager to sign a few docs and tried to sell the extended warranty. We declined but inquired at our Ford dealership when we got home and was given the same warranty at $300 less. A few weeks later, we called BJ concerning the big 60K mile service again, and again was told sorry, it was bowling night again and he would check again. This friend didn't show up last bowling night. I'm assuming he didn't show up again since we're still waiting for a call. I suppose we'll just have this service done since I'm not sure we could believe what he tells us anyway if he ever calls back! Typical car dealership. They're all attentive while trying to get the sale, but when you really need them for followup, you're on your own - they're done with you. More
