Never Again I recently purchase a 2011 Chevy Duramax from Dave Smith in Kellogg with 77k miles on it (5+ months ago) in which time I have put 7k miles on it. As I I recently purchase a 2011 Chevy Duramax from Dave Smith in Kellogg with 77k miles on it (5+ months ago) in which time I have put 7k miles on it. As I was leaving work a a little over a week ago I started my pickup and put it in reverse but it would not move, it acted as though it was in neutral. I received a "shift inhibited" message on the control panel. After I turned it off and on a few times it went back to normal like nothing had happened. I drove it straight down to my local Chevy dealership (Windy City Chevrolet in Ellensburg) to have them run a diagnostic test just to make sure everything thing was okay. They said it was probably a TCM issue that is a fairly common around the mileage on this truck. After the diagnostic they found no error codes, which they thought was odd, so they decided to drain the transmission fluid and check the transmission filter. They found metal shavings on the filter. They said since the truck's Allsion transmission is known for all of its fail-safe controls, it was highly unusual for something like this to happen. Due in part to the lack of error coding/fail-safe stops which is suppose to occur on these transmissions, the certified mechanic called a GM engineer to get additional support. The GM engineer has suggested the mechanic due a complete tear-down of the transmission. They quoted me a rebuild for approx $4,500 or a new one for approx $6,000. If this was a common maintenance issue for a truck of its age/mileage or if Dave Smith would have handled things differently, I wouldn't be writing this negative review. However, ironically, this is a major issue for a truck that was sold to me upon the reputation of a "bulletproof" transmission by the dealership. I hate to use the term "lemon", but that seems to be what I purchased from Dave Smith. To be clear, I did not buy a extended warranty and wasn't expecting them to treat the situation like I had bought one. I did however expect them NOT to treat me like one of these little corner lots that everyone has in there town, unfortunately that was not the case. I reached out to Dave Smith to see if there was anything thing they could do. I tried multiple times via email/voicemail's approximately 5 days before I finally got a response from a lady named Hayley who was very professional and polite (Thank you Hayley). She said that she would forward the information in regards to my situation to her boss, and that he would follow up with me the next day. After approximately a week later and multiple inquires to Hayley, a man named Lynn called me back. It was possibly the WORST experience I have had with someone in any customer service field. The conversation started off with him reading parts of my email back to me which explained the situation. Then he asked me if I was a "home owner", to which I replied "yes". He asked "if my dishwasher was to break if I would call the my realtor and ask them to replace it". I replied with "of coarse not". I told Lynn that I do not expect them to pay for the transmission, but since I bought the vehicle from them not that long ago that maybe they could possibly forgo the labor or something else possibly considering that I bought it from them. My thinking was that they would at a minimum they would offer me/try and figure out a better deal than the quote that my local dealership gave me. Instead with a raised voice, Lynn said something along the lines of "YOU COULDN'T AFFORD THE WARRANTY, AND NOW YOU WANT US TO OPEN OUR POCKETS". I replied with "there is no reason to get heated, I am only asking if there is anything you can do. I feel like you sold me a vehicle that possibly wasn't vetted properly by your staff...I'm simply asking if you can outdo the quote i was given since I bought the vehicle from you, and claim to stand by your vehicles" before I could get another word out he said "I"M DONE WITH YOU!" and hung up. Had Lynn been kind and/or apologetic of my situation and at least gave me the impression that he would at least inquire if there was anything they could do, I could have accepted the response no matter the outcome. However, he was nothing short of unprofessional, rude, and aggressive....I just don't get it...he wasn't empathetic to my situation and never offered any sort of a apology. I couldn't be more disappointed . More
