The customer’s vehicle is a 2009 Enclave with 140,000 miles. Other than an oil and filter change in June 2020 we have never worked on this vehicle. The vehicle is 15 model years old and on its 4th owner. The vehicle’s wholesale value running is approximately $2,500.  The customer wanted us to diagnose many items. We did most of the diagnosis at no charge. It took our master technician over 3 hours for the initial diagnosis. That’s close to a half day. Starting estimate was over $6,000 in repairs and other repairs would most likely be needed. We highly recommended to NOT do the work because the work exceeded the vehicle’s value by at least 3 times and maybe up to 5 times depending on additional repairs that potentially could be diagnosed. At the customer’s request, we replaced a purge valve and this is in no way related to the vehicle not running. The customer did pick up the vehicle and drove approximately 10 miles when the vehicle broke down. This vehicle breaking down was only of matter of time due to the vehicle’s extensive work needed. This vehicle needs a catalytic converter and potentially has internal engine damage due to the stopped-up catalytic converter. We have an extremely high customer satisfaction score and will continue to treat customers fair with the highest integrity.
