I was interested in a certified Altima, gave him the stock number and explained exactly what I wanted (just the car online price, doc fee, tax/title/license) and he said no problem. Great. Filled out the financing info online for a smoother transaction and to help speed things up. Went in 2 days later on my day off and the car was out on a test drive. No big deal, was shown the paperwork by Aaron and everything looked great, exactly what I had wanted and agreed to. Aaron comes back and tells me there’s a slight hiccup and the car was test driven all the way to Beaumont TX (from League City?!) but it wasn’t a deal and they were sending someone to pick up the car. I went and wasted some time and an hour and a half later Aaron called back to tell me the car was actually in Pearland TX. (How do they not know where there cars are?) I said okay, went back to the dealership and hour later and the car still wasn’t there. Waited a bit and Aaron found me and said it was finally back. Went to check it out and take it for a drive. The car was pretty dirty and had a very noticeable crack in the windshield. Aaron said they could give me a “We Owe” form and we could make an appointment for it to be fixed. Went through and signed more paperwork. Got to the financing office and the second I sit down the man said, “We are only selling you this car under 3 scenarios. Here they are.” and proceeds to flip his hand-drawn graph my way. One option included a warranty, the other included GAP, and the third included both. My payments went from the agreed $327/mo to $377/mo minimum. The other two options brought it all the way to $388/mo. I thought he was joking for a second, my dad sold cars for 30+ years and I have always known the dealership makes money when they get you to buy those add-ons. The money is made in that stale financing office, not the shiny showroom floor. But they are always OPTIONS. Every time I’ve purchased a vehicle I’ve politely declined all added warranties. It’s a pain and I know dealers done like it, but I’ve never in my life been forced to add one to make a deal. I explained it’s a certified vehicle with a powertrain warranty already, and I was putting significant money down and didn’t need GAP insurance - and IF I wanted it, I’d buy through my auto insurance as it’s much cheaper. His face stayed blank and he said, “You’re only getting that car with one of these options.” So I left. Aaron and Eko were both entirely unhelpful after that. What a waste of a day and everyone’s time. Please go anywhere else to purchase a vehicle. Bait-and-switch should be illegal entirely, and my next step is to report to Nissan Motor my experience. More
