Very poor service experience. The tech botched the valve cover replacement on my CX-5 and I ended up having oil all over the top and front of the engine. Then I had to wait severa More

Mr. Jim Hambright, Per our conversations when you visited, the warranty repair to your CX5 is not common and required us to order parts for the repair after your first visit to verify your concern. Unfortunately, on the first repair attempt after the parts arrived, the valve cover gasket was defective or possibly nicked in the install. The seepage of oil was not evident after the technician test drove after the 1st repair; it appeared several days after you picked up. We overnighted a new valve cover gasket, rearranged shop schedules to prioritize you, and provided you a complementary loaner vehicle. After the final repair, I personally checked the cleanliness of your vehicle’s engine bay, and verified the oil was at the proper level using your dipstick. Please refer to Section 6 Owner Maintenance “Inspecting Engine Oil Level” if you would like to learn how to check your oil level yourself. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience and sorry you felt you needed to change your oil to make sure you had the proper level. Chad Rogers General Manager

Chad…I see that you didn’t dispute the facts I presented in my review of your dealership’s Service Department. However, you did take a few “liberties” in your response in an attempt to downplay the poor service I received, so I will address those… 1. The Oil Control Valve (OCV) and/or gasket leaks is a common fault for Mazda vehicles. This continuing problem is an issue across several Mazda vehicle platforms and is the reason I originally brought my vehicle in for service. To say it is an uncommon problem is inaccurate. The readers of this forum can simply do a web search on “Mazda OCV leaks” and they will be able to review plenty of information on this topic. As that is the case, perhaps you just need more experienced personnel to mange your repair parts inventory. 2. No, it didn’t take days for the oil leak to show up. I noticed it right away after driving home. Unfortunately though, I assumed that the excess oil was the result of sloppy repair work and simply cleaned it up. However after driving the vehicle again a few days later, I realized that that was not the case. In actuality…the repair had been botched. To make matters worse, when contacting your dealership, I was told that I needed to send in pictures of the oil leak to your dealership before I could schedule service to get the issue fixed. Of course this delayed the overall repair process. 3. I am glad that I erred on the side of caution to change the oil. Blackstone analysis showed that there was an unusually high level of silicon in the oil. The high level of silicon was most likely due to gasket particles and other debris falling into the engine oil during the repair. Silicon is a concern because it is a wear agent and can cause significant and premature wear on internal engine components. In my case, the $30 oil analysis performed by Blackstone was well worth it as it validated my concerns regarding a subpar repair experience at your dealership.
