About two weeks ago, I saw an on-line ad for a late-model used car at Baker Chrysler Jeep. I went there, test-drove the car, and liked it, but I wanted to look at some other cars before making my decision. used car at Baker Chrysler Jeep. I went there, test-drove the car, and liked it, but I wanted to look at some other cars before making my decision. The salesman offered to hold the car for two days, with no obligation, if I put a $500 deposit on it. I wrote a check for $500, dated two days in the future. He then gave me a form to sign, saying it was a receipt for my deposit. When I started to read the form, he said, “You don’t have to read that; it’s just a standard form.” While I was reading the form, he tried twice more to persuade me to sign it without reading it. It was a sales contract. (I didn't sign it.) More
I made the mistake of purchasing a used Jeep Grand Cherokee from Baker. Prior to purchase, we were told that three specific repairs would be made to the car at our request and that the car would be f Cherokee from Baker. Prior to purchase, we were told that three specific repairs would be made to the car at our request and that the car would be fully serviced and completely tuned. Three weeks after purchasing the car, we brought it back to Baker for a minor repair. The service manager told me that the car had not been serviced in "quite some time" and needed a "major tune up." When I told the service manager about the representations that had been made to us by sales, he said that he didn't know what we were told but he did know that the car needed required maintenance that should have been performed 10,000 miles ago. It took me quite a few calls to finally contact the sales manager who refused to discuss the problem with me and then hung up on me. When I brought the car back and asked the dealer to provide the service we were told had already been performed, the service manager told me that the sales manager had told him that he was not authorized to have my car serviced at Baker. When I brought the car to another dealer, he confirmed that the required service had not been performed. He also told me that the three specific repairs we had requested had also not been performed. I contacted the department of consumer affairs in NJ and was told that they have had many similar complaints about Baker. Unfortunately there was nothing they could do about this because it was our word against theirs. My suggestion - steer clear of these guys. More
I was assured in writing (e-mail) and in person that the car I purchased had "no problems." I rapidly discovered the cruise control did not work on the way home after purchase, and the check engine light ca car I purchased had "no problems." I rapidly discovered the cruise control did not work on the way home after purchase, and the check engine light came on before I even got the car home! I had driven the car for less than 400 miles when I took it to my mechanic for PA inspection. He quickly discovered the "certified" car had a leaking front CV boot, a faulty inhibitor switch and rear brakes so badly worn that the rotors were also destroyed. Naturally the limited warranty only covered the CV boot repair. When I called the dealership, the service department informed me that it is actually the salespeople who "certify" the cars and I had to speak to the sales staff. I was assured I would be contacted within 1/2 hour. Of course no one called and I am left with loads of repairs to pay for. More
Baker, “the deal breaker”. Never do any business here. Baker, “the deal breaker”. Never do any business here. This is not a bogus story from a competitor to this dealer. I've waited roughly 25 days af Baker, “the deal breaker”. Never do any business here. This is not a bogus story from a competitor to this dealer. I've waited roughly 25 days after my experience to write this review. On April 5, I went to buy a car to Baker Chrysler Jeep dealer, in Princeton, New Jersey. I had chosen the dealer and the car through the Chrysler website and I specially selected this dealer because of the Five Star Chrysler designation, the highest recognition that Chrysler can award a retailer. That day, I agreed on the purchase price with the sales representative and the manager, and I made an initial payment to ensure the price and agreed to pay off the balance on Monday, April 8. To such effects on Monday 8, I went to the dealer. The sales representative received me at his desk and handed the sales contract over to me. I checked the numbers and noticed that, at the end of the sales contract there were some charges without justification and not backed by any documentation, which amounted to 7% of the purchase price. I expressed my concerns to the sales representative and told him that I thought that the charges were inappropriate because they were very high, had not been mentioned before and were not supported by any documentation. All this conversation was held until that moment normally, exchanging my opinions with the sales representative. Unexpectedly, an unknown man, totally furious, burst in on the place where we were seated, snatched away the sales contract and broke it in my face, screaming at me that the sale was over. I was stunned. Immediately that same person, still yelling, ordered me to get out of his store right away, without giving me any explanation for his behavior. I asked him if he was the owner and he said that he was. As I noticed he was totally furious and in order to avoid a worse situation, I judged prudent to leave. Took me two visits to the dealership to recover my money. I complained to Chrysler customer service, but the “service” is only an automatic answering machine. Baker, “the deal breaker”. Never do any business with Baker Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Princeton, New Jersey. Never do any business with Chrysler. Chrysler Five Star, it’s a bad joke!!! If you set foot in this place, you can't say you weren't warned. More
