My name is Paul Weston of Bridgeport, CT, and I am deeply disappointed in Chevrolet of Jersey City. I first made contact with this dealer on August 12 2011. I was interested in purchasing the Black 2001 D disappointed in Chevrolet of Jersey City. I first made contact with this dealer on August 12 2011. I was interested in purchasing the Black 2001 Dodge Durango that was advertised on Craigslist. I was told that the price was $3888.00. On the morning of August 13 2011, I submitted an online credit application. About an hour later, I was contacted by Karen, who informed me that my application was approved. I stated to Karen that I was interested in the 2001 Durango, and that I was able to put a deposit of $2500.00 down. Karen stated that that was perfect. Karen asked if I could fax my pay stubs and utility bill to her in order to speed up the process and have the paperwork ready by the time I arrived. I faxed the documentation over to her, and stated on the face sheet "2001 Dodge Durango, Black." I traveled to Jersey Cit via Metro North Railroad, NYC MTA and NJ Path train. Once I arrived, I was introduced to Mr. Drake Heart who assisted me. Mr. Heart escorted outside to view the vehicle and take a test drive. At first sight, I noticed scratches in the paint. I was still willing to work with it. When the driver door was opened, I noticed that the driver's seat had a huge rip in it. I was still willing to work with it. When the vehicle was started the engine was very smooth. The AC did not work, but Mr. Heart said that it may just need a charge of Freon. A possible problem, but OK, I was still willing to work with it. The test drive went well. I was impressed. Once Mr. Heart and I returned dealer, I gave him my deposit of $2500.00. A few minutes later, Mr. Heart, Karen and another gentleman came to me. Karen began by saying, "Paul, before we begin, you never spoke to me." The fact is that we did speak that morning about me purchasing the Durango. Karen went on to say that since the Durango was a 2001, the bank would not finance it. If you were to look at the many different advertisements on Craigslist concerning this vehicle, one even read "low payments that you deserve." The gentleman who came over with Karen and Mr. Heart stated that he was sorry, and he didn't want me to leave displeased. He asked if I was able to put an additional $500.00, and I could drive away. I informed the gentleman that the best that I could do at that time was and additional $350.00. After a few minutes, Mr. Heart escorted me back outside to look at a minivan. I stated to Mr. Heart at I traveled from Bridgeport, CT with the understanding that I would be purchasing the Dodge Durango, and I was not interested in purchasing the minivan. After about an hour, I was told by Mr. Heart that I would only be able to purchase the minivan. I feel that I was deceived from the very first conversation that Karen and I had. It was a slap in the face to me because: 1) I traveled through two states to purchase the Durango. At any time before I arrived, I could have been contacted and made aware of the situation. 2) After test driving the vehicle and giving a deposit of $2500.00, I was told that the vehicle I was interested in could not be financed, when earlier that morning, I was told that I was approved for financing. 3) Denied the vehicle I was interested in, and then being pushed into purchasing a vehicle that I had no interest in at all, or walking away with nothing. We meet a salesmen by the name of frank. he took us in a car to the car was parked away from their show room. their was snow all over it. we had to drive back and get a shovel and an ice scraper. when we got back i helped him get the snow off( not my job but im a nice guy). he drove the car off te spot and where the car was, their was trans fluid all over the ground. i drove the car back to the show room where i told him that if thats the case im not buying it. then he became a completlly diffrent person, even telling me that "im not a nissan dealer". at this point he became rude walking away taling on his phone etc. now when i told him what else do you have he became the salesmen of the year again lol. i test drove a few cars and fell in love with a chevy that they had. it was more then i wanted to spend but it was a great car with low miles. with my credit i was not sure if i was going to be able to get it. they ran my info and told me its not a problem we can do it. We did the paper work and it was all good. they just need me to come back in a few days to get it all worked out with paper work. now after all the things i asked him he was very shady and beating around the bush. but i was blinded by the fact that i had a great car. I DROVE it ALL WEEKEND. Come to find out on monday that they would need a co sign. never once was i told this. they could have been honest and told me. the whole time all he keept tellig me from the time i walked into the end was "dont worry its going to happen, its all good and aproved", so i took his word for it . BIG MISTAKE. now when i chould not find a co signer they tried to pawn a diffret car off on me that i did not like. at this point i was not happy i was lied to. And they could not even tell prices it was like they where making it up. i asked to speak to a manager. the manger was rude and could nt give me any ansers as to why this happed. all he keept saying was that this was how we do it and the way we do it. i have never heard of takin a car off the lot when the dealer does even know if u have the loan. i had to insure it put gas in it. it as a waste o my time and money. AVOID THIS DEALER AT ALL COSTS. THEY WILL CON YOU. P.S. when i went back to the dealer to bring the car back their where police their becase of a dispute with a customer. the customer had to call the police. also one guy had to walk out becuse the contract they had for him was shady. Everything about this dealership is terrible. I purchased a car with a warranty that covered absolutely nothing. On 3 separate occasions on the phone it was confirmed that a order could be put in for a Camaro that could be located within 2 weeks "from another one of their dealerships". This proved to be a lie - it that a order could be put in for a Camaro that could be located within 2 weeks "from another one of their dealerships". This proved to be a lie - it relly is 18 weeks. General Manager did not respond to a phone message and "was not available" at time of visit. More
